What kibble is suitable for sensative stomachs?

Ok I took everyone advice and bought another brand of dog food - I was feeding Science Prescription Diet ZD Ultra (didn't realize how bad it was). I purchased Blue Wilderness instead- which is a 6 star food - and began feeding very small amounts to my Dobe along with her old food as recommended by the manufactor.

My dobe got very very sick today, after being fed a mixed ration for less than 48 hours. (was feeding 1:8 ratio). So she back on ZD 100%. I think that Blue Wilderness is too high in protein for her.

Any recommendations for an alternative food that would easy to transition to??

Try Royal Canin dog food. High protein dog food caused my puppy to have loose stools. People swear by it but many puppies cannot handle the high protein. I know what you mean -- Solid Gold and many premium foods make puppies sick. When the pup gets older you can try some better foods.

I am using Canidae All Life Stages. Rocky is really thriving on it! I am also using something called Absorb More which is supposed to help with digestion!

My previous dobie did really well on ProPlan, and he had many, many allergies!

Not every type of food is perfect for every dog. Sometimes it is a search. There are many different foods that you can try. If you continue to have such severe reactions with her stomach, maybe you should consider keeping her on the SD. If it is what works, it is what works. I have a cat that will vomit up every type of premium food out there. I have to feed her the bottom of the barrel Meow Mix just to keep her from heaving everywhere. I hate having to stuff that in her and cringe everytime I buy it. But it is the food that works for her and she thrives on it. Good luck and I hope you find your right food.

COLOR="Sienna"]If you have a good pet supply store near you, ask them for samples so you can try different foods without purchasing big bags and not being happy with them. I take the food samples offered by better companies and use them as training treats for my dogs.[/color][

I agree with what DreamDoby said. You have to feed her what works obviously. I know some dogs that thrive on ProPlan for sensitive stomach and skin formula. Just transition slowly if you switch foods. There are lots out there to try.

i am having the same problem with mauser i was gradually changing him over from the breeders food to orijen large breed puppy and he did not do well....like you it was only gradually miked for less than 48 hours and his stool was complete liquid(without sounding to crude) and literally shooting out. to make a long story short, we took him to the vet and he is now on science diet zd also for 5 days, as recommended by our vet. after the 5 days we will try to again gradually put him on a more simple, lower protein food this time. i was going to try innova puppy. dont know if this helps at all.

mulrooneyryan, good to know that you are seeking the best kibble out there for your dobe. it's true that sometimes the very 'best' kibble or diet plan for your dobe backfires, no matter how slowly you transition, etc. innova is good, and so are a few others. I'm sure you've seen this: Dog Food Reviews - Main Index - Powered by ReviewPost

perhaps you could also transition the food even more slowly? i.e. maybe 5% new kibble (orijen or innova), 95% old kibble, and with every meal, up it by 5%?
