Injection site reaction

Last weekend Geno had a vet visit. He was supposed to be getting his parvo shot. Then the vet expressed her concern about a few cases of (non-canine/feline) rabies that have shown up in the area and wanted to administer the rabies vacc while he was there. I explained that I had wanted to wait until he was 6 months of age (he just turned 5 months). She kept on and on about it, so my wife and I reluctantly agreed. Friday I was petting Geno and as I ran my hand down his hindquarters, I noticed a bump where the injection was given. It's about 1/2-3/4" long, maybe 1/4' wide at the most. It doesn't seem to bother him when I touch it, so I don't believe it is sore. How concerned should I be about this? It doesn't seem to have gotten any bigger from when I discovered it. Is another trip to the vet warranted to check it out? Needless to say I'm a little peeved, but I wonder if he would've had the same reaction if we waited till 6 months?

Usually the rabies shot is given at 16 weeks, it is common to have a reaction and that is why they are supposed to do it over a shoulder or hip so if it did develop into something it could potentially be amputated.
Both of my male cats have had a reaction to the rabies shot, it should go away in about 4 to 6 weeks time.
Although it really does make me question how safe these vaccines really are.
I dont think a vet trip is warranted yet as my vet just told me it should go away in a month, just bring up your concern at next visit.

ok, thanks! I was just a little worried and wanted to act quickly if it could be hazardous to him.

Agreed, I am always nervous when it is (was) shot time for him. You put a lot of trust into the dr.'s and vets that take care of you and your pets health.
