Calvin indulged on socks!!!

Last night Calvin disapeared for maybe 5 minutes while i was having a conversation with my girlfriend on the deck. When we realized he wasnt outside we ran in and found him coming out of my roomates bedroom with a guilty look. I was 90% sure he had eaten at least one sock, because his stomach was visibly swollen. I decided to try some hydrogen peroxide to make him vomit, and thankfully he eventually puked out not only 1 sock.... BUT 5 FULL SOCKS!!!

He is feeling a little sick today, but seems to be getting better, I just hope he got all of them out.

Omigosh! I'm glad you acted quickly on that. One sock, (let alone five socks) could have potentially been a very bad situation. Scary.

May I suggest keeping bedroom doors closed, or blocking off certain sections of the house so that he is not able to get into dirty laundry or other hazards if you lose sight of him for a moment.

Hopefully all came up, but be VERY careful in the future as this could kill him or cost you thousands in surgery. It might be a good idea to take him in to a e-vet just to make sure today.

Little beggar. good that you knew how to make him vomit. Until he gets 'over' his sock fetish. make it a rule that socks are either in a drawer or in a laundry basket OUT of reach of your little trouble maker. Hope he is OK.

Layla was doing the same thing.
Boy is she fast.
My 93 year old Aunt Millie lives with us and her mind is gone.
She would put her dirty socks in her shoes on the floor.
Needless to say, I needed to induct vomiting to many times to remember.
I finally took all Aunt Millies socks away and insisted that she wear pantihose. I also bought her a pair of slipper socks, they have leather soles, for warmth.
Enough is enough.
I had to explain to her that I could loose Layla because of her carelessness. I felt bad about taking the socks away, but I had no choice in the matter.

I say soak a sock with bitter apple and see if that curbs the sock appetite.

thanks for the replies! he was a little bit sick yesterday, he vomited a few times. I read that feeding them chicken noodle soup after peroxide is good because it coats the lining of their stomach. i gave him a little bit, but he still puked a few times. today he seems to be all better, hasnt puked at all and has eaten regular meals. however he does chew a lot more now, which is strange because he didnt used to chew at all... hopefully just a good habit picked up and not a sign of a 6th sock that got through!

I feel for you! I also have a sock snatcher! It's hard to prevent it 100% but I no longer allow him in or near the laundry room!

Im interested in knowing about inducing them to throw up and never heard about the peroxide... How much to you give - do you pour it down their throats?

watch that his regular bowel movements start back up. One sign of blockage were there a sixth sock in there is they stop pooping.
