Arthur has bumps

Well I have had Arthur for about a month now and he has recently developed acne like bumps on his sides. I have been rubbing him with Listerine and it has helped a bit. I am in the process of completely switching him from Canidae to Orijen. Yesterday, he had vomited a few times and had loose stool. I monitor him when he is outside and there is really nothing for him to get into out there. My main concern is the bumps. They don't seem to bother him, itching etc...any ideas. BTW, I am making him an appointment at the vet to get them checked out.

Are they under his chin? If so, after every meal you need to be washing his chin and make sure you dry it well. If it's bad enough, you may have to get an antibiotic.

My brown started with non-itchy bumps on the underside of his neck at about 1 1/2 yrs and progressed to generalized bumpiness, slight hair loss, and itching which we're still trying to get a handle on at age 2 1/2 (working on allergy angle at this point). Since his daddy was blue, I figure it's some form of inherited doberman skin thing. Hope yours does better. Like to hear your vets opinion/treatment.

Have you talked to his breeder or previous owner to see if they ever experienced anything like this when they had him? That would be my first step if I had him. If you moved him very far he might be allergic to something around your area that he didn't come in contact with before. Carpet cleaner, detergent you wash his bed with....etc. But there is usually itching with enviormental or food allergies.

I really wouldn't worry unless they started to increase. Five or six bumps your dog should be able to handle if it is staph which goes along with allergic reactions.

I have shot his breeder an email. He came a long way, so it very well could be something different in his environment. He has an appt on Friday and I will post the results

A lot of times allergies build up after many exposures to an allergen--that's why a move to a new area often leads to much reduced allergy problems. Yippee, thinks the poor allergy sufferer; but after a few years, he is just as allergic to the new environment as he was to the old.

We took Arthur to the vet on Friday. He was scraped for mites (none found). I don't think they were really sure what the bumps are..but put him on antibiotics. fish oil caps with DHA and an antibacterial shampoo. I have to bathe him twice a week until they clear up, but they actually are starting to look much better. I spoke with his breeder and he thinks it is probably due to a staph infection.
