Rockerman is on a distinguished road
Over 1 year old and still has soft stool

Has anyone had this problem with their dobe and found a food that fixes them up? If so, what food?

He has had all kinds of dry dog food. All kinds of Purina, Iams, Alpo, Pedigree, Beneful, etc.

Very soft, as in a puddle, most of the time. He doesn't have any health problems, weighs over 90 pounds and eats plenty.

Those are all sh!tty foods.. pun intended.

Try a higher quality kibble.. more expensive but worth it. California Natural and Canidae are two good ones and readily avail at most pet supply stores. Adding probiotic enzymes may also help.

PS.. I had the same issue with my previous Dobe and it turns out we may have been feeding her too much. When we reduced the amount of food and added probiotic enzymes ("Dogzymes") the problem was.. well.. eliminated!

Yes I agree 100% with Lyngr. The foods that you are feeding are NOT quality foods. You need to put him on an organic food like Canidae, Innova Evo, Orijen, Solid Gold, etc. I think if he was on a higher quality kibble, he would have better stools.

check out Dog Food Analysis - Reviews of kibble, find a much better food, what you listed a very poor quality! that would be the first step.

Poor foods. Good. How about telling me what is causing the problem. Too much fat in the food? What?

I've had other dogs eat much cheaper food than Iams and not had any problems with their stool.

What do probiotic enzymes do?

The cheap/poor quality kibble is all filler and processed meat/parts.. basically, it's junk food. As a rule of thumb, the fewer and more natural the ingredients are, the better.

Dobermans are different than other dogs! My older retriever mix has a stomach of steel and can eat anything.. both Dobes I own(ed) have (had) very sensitive stomachs and even the littlest change in diet causes "intestinal issues".

Here's a link to probiotic enzymes:

amysweet9599 will become famous soon enough
I have a friend with a lab who is dealing with the same frustrations and has had her dog on quality food since she got him (Blue Buffalo, California Natural, Canidea, Solid Gold, Natural Planet, etc). Turns out her dog suffered from giardia (puddles of diarrhea). It took her multiple stool samples which didn't always come up positive as well as antibiotics to get him to poop more solid. Right now she is on a combination of Cal Natural Chicken and Rice and the Blue Buffalo which seems to work for him. Every dog is different... Also, I would recommend lessening the amount you give him and completely elliminate all other foods &/or treats to see if it may be something else that's effecting him other than the food. Best of luck to you and your pup - it can be very frustrating to find what works for you!
