| Personally, (My dobie was rescued, and has a docked tail.) I wouldn't dream of doing this to him, Personally it seems nasty and uneeded. just a personal opinion, and no offence to those that have done it. |

| Most reputable US and Canadian breeders will crop the whole litter before they go to their new homes. Not only is a cropped dog standard, but if for any reason the puppy is returned, the breeder will have a better chance of rehoming it if it is cropped. Something else to consider if you do get your puppy cropped is that you are going to be looking at the dog for the next 8-15 yrs so you will want an attractive crop that fits the dog. A bad crop is far worse than none at all.

Ear cropping is an art and is not something vets learn in school. Don't be fooled by a vet who says they are "experienced at cropping" in general because each breed has a different cropping style and the vet may only be experienced at pit bull crops - you never know unless you do thorough research. A vet who knows Dobermans and Doberman cropping will be able to determine the best/most flattering Dobe crop for your puppy.
You may want to ask if anyone on the forum knows of any experienced vets that crop Dobe ears in your area.
Here are some threads about cropping, if you haven't seen them already: Ear Cropping and Posting

| | Alpha | I think it's really a personal preference thing. To me, the doberman is a cropped/docked breed-cropped ears and docked tails are as necessary to proper breed type as the markings or indomitable courage.
I just don't correlate elective surgery with cruel when its done under sterile conditions and with anesthetic.

| Both my girls are completly natural, tails and all, I choose not to have either of them altered in any way. It's all personally opinion.
