Orijen concerns

Fish bones have been found in Orijen dog food. I was researching this brand and was considering trying it out on my dogs, until I read this. Wanted to post this here just in case anyone was feeding it. The golden retriever forum board has pics posted! These bones are not small and can do some damage!

I feed orijen very occasionally, and have yet to see any fish bone. that said, fish bones, cooked or not, are digestible and does not splinter unlike cooked chicken/cow/pigetc bones. they are safe for dogs to eat. of course, they could still pose as choking hazards, so just watch out for them if you feel uneasy!

thanks for the heads-up!

Well, I think that it was only found in the Senior formula. I think that no matter what we feed, we should keep an eye out. I've also read in a couple of different places that Canidae is making some dog's sick, and that people who have fed it for awhile with good results are now experiencing problems with each bag smelling different, the kibble looking different, some dogs getting diarrhea, etc. I feed Canidae as my main staple, but have not had problems. So, I am keeping an eye out as well. It sucks that those who rely on dog food and think they can trust the companies that make it can't trust the so called good companies.

I JUST bought a bag of this, as I'm switching to this for Logan.
I bought the 'Large Puppy' kind, though...

I'll keep my eyes open!

I have been feeding Orijen for over 6 months now and I have NOT had any problems. I do feed Orijen Fish to my bitch. I think Orijen is a great food, but everyone ALWAYS look at what you're feeding before you give it to your dog with any food.

Aquaholic, I think it will be ok with the large breed puppy. It does not have fish in it. You will see a big difference in your boy's coat.

I fed lexx this food before i switched to raw and honestly never had any issue and i did feed the fish variety.

that being said, lexx eats whole fish all the time... I wouldn't be overly concerned about fish bones in their food, they are a good source of calcium. If i can digest the fish bones that i can't seperate from my canned salmon, i imagine that the dogs will do just fine.
