Bumps.... :(

Need a little help... My Mia girl showed up last night with some bumps on the back of her neck... Little ones not big ones like she got 2 years ago with her food allergy attack. Now she is eating raw food so I know she is not having food allergy. She has a pill that she takes twice a day for her thyroids and she has bad dry skin... (my poor thing!!)

Anyways, I am going to stop by the store on the way home and get her some 25mg Benadryl (in case she got into something), give her a little bath in oatmeal shampoo, and then see what happens. Any ideas of anything else that I could put on the bumps?? I found them last night and they have not really done anything since then. It's a small group and does not seem to be spreading.... Any thoughts?? Thanks!!

I used to use a listerine rinse on Chi - I believe it helped to dry the bumps up and relieved itching - 1 part listerine to 10 parts water - just pour it over her and let her drip dry. This also works very well for acne bumps on the chin.
Now I use a sulfur rinse on her that is fantastic! We'll go back to listerine when we move back to the US - Unfortunately the sulfur is on the list of stuff we can't ship and Mark won't let me try to sneak it - evidentally sulfur is used as an ingredient in bombs or something and he's not really keen on the idea of getting caught trying to sneak bomb making material into the country

Great!! I have not heard of that before!! Are you talking about just normal like mouth wash listerine?? Does it have to be a certain type? I may sound dumb but I have not heard of that before...

I buy the off brand of listerine, the brownish looking stuff. I had a vet once tell me that it will also help keep the area/bumps clean to cut down on the chance of infection... it's also excellent for hotspots
Oh and another positive is that it will make her super shiney! I orginally learned about it from the gal who taught me how to groom - she used as a finishing rinse on almost every dog that came into her shop...

Thank you soooo much!! We have been having LOTS of issues with Mia's skin since she was about 6 months old so anything new I am up to try!! We are doing fish oil, raw eggs, raw meat and oatmeal shampoos right now so I will try the listerine!! I know that you are not supposed to give them a lot of baths as it dries out the skin but anything that I can use in between would be great!!

hey black and tans,
could you tell me more about those bumps? my almost 7 month old male dobe has had problems with his skin since I got him. breeder says it's 'sensitive skin' from its mum and would go away after 1 years old. I don't know how much to believe him..

in any case, he has got a few types of skin issues. first are occasional bumps which look like acne/pimples. those go away after a few days and then become a scab which I can peel off and it'll be fine - flat again. hair will grow over it eventually.

then he has got some 'elephant skin' like callouses which looks quite bad. he has a blanket/bed to sleep in every night so I don't know why he has got them. he's not particularly heavy either.

when he was in quarantine he had even worse problems, like red spots in his underarms and legs. those went away when he was home - I think they were caused by the heat.

he's on a raw diet now too, but his skin problem is not 100% resolved. I can only hope for the best. the vet I went to prescribed some antibiotics for him, which I thought was way too much for moonshine when his skin problem isn't that bad.
