Raw diet question and Walmart

Hi. I know that some raw feeders said they sometimes bought their chicken quarters from Walmart, and I wanted to ask about that. It's always pretty cheap, but the only kind that my walmart carries says its seasoned with chicken broth for flavor. I believe it was only $.39 a pound? (the only kind IN A BAG, is what I mean, they do sell perdue chicken there as well) I didn't get it because we weren't sure if it was ok to feed this when it states that it's got chicken broth in there. Is this the kind that people get from walmart and is it ok to feed the dogs? I'm going to walmart soon so I wanted to ask before I went and bought some, thanks!!

Walmart sells leg quarters in a big bag. It is really cheap also. I think they are like 10lb bags. I want to say the bag was clear with a red strip on it, but dont quote me on that

You can also get Cornish Game Hens at Wal Mart pretty cheap. They sell them as singles or in packs of two.

Make sure the bag says "minimally processed" which should mean NO saline or juice injected. I personally don't feed any meat with anything added.

I'm pretty sure that's the bag I saw. It definitely had a red colored label on it, and the other part of the bag was clear. Those are the bags I'm talking about that mentioned the chicken broth. (unless they get in some without the broth, but I've never seen it there without the broth, though I will ask them when I'm there today) I am wondering if it is OK to feed them chicken with chicken broth on it? Because I know that a lot of times chicken broth adds sodium, and I wasn't sure if that was ok.

I did see the cornish game hens and I think I'll buy a pack or two of those today. Do you guys feed the whole hen, or do you cut it up for them. (I know feeding goes by weight, just wondering if people give it to them whole)

Feed it whole if the weight works for a meal.

I personally would not feed my dogs the Wal Mart chicken because of the added chicken broth. The cornish game hens are good though - I feed them to mine whole.

Ok. so the chicken quarters with the broth is a NO NO? I don't understand why they don't sell it WITHOUT the broth. I am going to ask them today if they can order any without it, or if that brand even carries such a thing.

That's all I was looking for, thank you!

No harm in asking them. Also, check with the reg. supermarket butcher, I'm often able to get chicken for $.69/lb

Given WalMart's Ol' Roy dog food and treats are ranked as one of the worst out there; and have been linked in a study to an increased resistance to anesthesia due to residual levels left in the food from the animals slaughtered to make the food, I'd be questioning what's left in the chicken bought there and the impact to not only my dog, but to myself as well.

But, that's just me...

My Shoprite has chicken parts for 39 cents a pound every few weeks, when I see them I buy a shoping cart full, other wise I pay around 59 cents a pound. What ever I see on sale, I just stock up and freeze.
