| | Alpha | Hair - Raising Stuff !!!!!!!!!!! Hi, I have noticed this stuff on my 10 month old dobe whenever she sees a cat or a Rodent, She begins to bark and right from her forehead to her tail the hair stands up
watch the photo please,
Is that normal????? |

| That's completely normal! It can happen with fear, defensiveness, or aggression. It's called "hackling up". The hair from the neck to the rear end can stand on end to make the dog look bigger to whatever it thinks is threatening it.
No worries.

| I didn't know they get a straight line like that! Red only gets a patch right over his shoulder blades that stands up, no line down his body. I guess they're all different  |

| leroys hair stands up...not in a straight line like the picture above but right below his neck a patch rises when he barks. so yea its normal

| Roxy gets both...the straight line down her head and the tuft that stands up on her shoulder blades. It makes me laugh when it happens and I always tell her how much bigger she looks, as I know that's the intent, but on dobes, it just doesn't seem to do that! My boyfriends dog is a lab/chow mix, and when her hair stands up, she really does look bigger. It's more obvious when furrier animals do it; think of a cat...they tend to look a bit bigger when they raise their fur.  |
