| Eyelid tumor and cryosurgery surgery Any and all suggestions or related experiences are welcomed.
Our ZoeDog will need to have a lump removed that is under her top eyelid. Dr was concerned because of the black color but I've read that eye tumors in older dogs are not unexpected.
He said it is still small enough (but it looks big to me about 6cm) for cryosurgery. If we wait and it grows it could require stitches ( not a good thing for inside eyelid) Also she won't have to be knocked out (just in that happy state) with a local to deaden it.
This is with an experience surgeon and at the same place where she had a disk removed in her neck last year about this time. (poor thing has been thru a lot).
My biggest concern is he said she would have to wear an e-collar for 3-4 weeks. That means CONSTANT SUPERVISION on our part. But worst of all we had tried this before and had to tape two collars together because her neck is so long! Then she couldn't even raise her head it was so heavy.
She can not be allowed to scratch her eye with her paw or try to wipe it on the furniture for 3-4 weeks. This is the hard part. I looked at the soft alternatives to the lampshade collar but it would not protect her eye that I can see.
Anyone have experience with this type of situation ?
P.S. just found this web board and love it ! It's great to find so many dobe lovers to chat with! |

| I have no experience with anything but the lampshade type collar so I'm no help to you. I can however offer prayers for your dog to do well and for the surgeons hands to be guided well. This is a good place to ask questions and I'm sure someone with more experience than me will reply soon. Welcome to Doberman Talk, it is the best group you could possibly join and the folks are so nice and helpful. Why did ZoeDog have a disc removed? I hope she is ok now in that area. |

| Oh I just saw in another (very sad thread), why your ZoeDog had disc surgery. I'm glad it worked so well for her. |

| So I read that eye lid tumors are common in older dogs? Any one have eyelid tumors on their Dobe that have had to be removed? |

| Bump, I'm hoping one of our Vets or Vet Techs will see this and respond. Please let us know how it goes. Usually when responses are slow it means that no one knows the answers. |

| THANKS.. I appreciate the BUMP... We haven't made the surgery date yet.. trying to make my schedule when I can spend most time with her. Dad has his 90th birthday on memorial day and I really need to be available for that.. but.. they don't want us to wait becuase its so big.. and if it gets bigger she will need full surgery and not just cyro ! |

| Well, ZOe's surgery is Monday! I did meet someone at work that had the same thing.. only had stiches.. said it wasn't a bad recovery. We did purchase 2 of the INTERTUBE type ecollars. ProCollar Inflatable Elizabethan Collar Large - Dog Elizabethan Collars at Arcata Pet Supplies
*two because her neck is so long. I know she still has to wear the cone head collar too for a while becuase even tough she can't scratch the eye with her paws with the intertube collars she can still rub it on the furniture (I think). we tested it.. sorta.. put them on and put some tape on her nose to see if she could get it off! I'll take a photo and post it after surgery. She's such a sensitive thing but I'm sure she will do well.
thanks y'all for being there!

Blaze had one removed from her left eyelid about 4 months ago. She had to have stitches, and our Vet used "silk" so there would be little to no itching. I didn't have to e-collar her and it was only after the first week that she would close the eye and gently rub it on the carpet or upholstery.
We had no problems. Course, I was more freaked about it being low grade malignant. I keep a watchful eye on her eye now! *LOL* Clearly the "eyes" have it in my house!
