| Ears! 3/24 - Baron had his ears done in a pet crop. Looked good. Same vet did my other dog's ears and they turned out good.
3/31 - Took Baron to my regular vet because he was "sick". (ear crop doc is not reg b/c I have to drive kinda far to get to him b/c most in my area don't crop) I asked them to check his ears for infection. WITHOUT checking the ears, diagnosis was "upset tummy".
I've done the ear thing many many times, so I know what to do but infections happen with surgery. That's just the way that it is sometimes.
Mom says "take those ears down and check them immediately!" So, I did.
Now, due to infection, he has to get his ears amputated. Probably tomorrow is D-day for those ears. BEST case scenario is a military crop, which I personally don't care for...but that's best case. Vet seems to think that his ears will have to be cut clost to his head.
I was joking with a friend of mine that has cancer that I need to get him a hat. Anyone know of a good place to get a hat for a puppy? ha. I was thinking an aviator hat to match his name - Baron.
Has anyone ever had this happen before? What did you do?

| Oh wow, I'm so sorry!
Whatever you, do NOT let the vet cover them back up after surgery. They should never have the cut edges covered until they are completely healed and the sutures are removed.

| This is just awful news! That poor baby! I hope that the operation goes well and as Julie said, do NOT cover those ears again. Keep us posted. We are all sending good wishes!

| Poor baby, I hope all goes well at the Vet's.
It may be that no one removed the cotton that is placed in the base of the ear canal to soak up blood after the surgery. This should have been removed before you took him home from the Vets after cropping. I always ask the clinic if this has been done and then I still check them all myself. Because once years ago, I did not check, Luckily everything was fine but I had to deal with a pup with a very infected ear.

| I really appreciate all the well wishes! I am NOT going to re-wrap the ears. At this point, I am just thankful that it's not going to cost him his life. The ears are very gangrenous now, so I should know something tomorrow about how short we'll need to go. It's not really going to be a "crop" this time around, but just a pure amputation. I spoke with an animal rights attorney today that believes that I have great case for malpractice.

| That really is sad, and is one of the main reasons that I support people when they leave their puppies ears natural when they buy from a breeder who does not crop. It is way too easy to run into problems that you are not prepared to deal with.
I am really sorry to hear about this, but the ears do not make the dog and I hope you enjoy many many years with yours.
