Check this out! Cederridge (sp) Vet in Tulsa, OK does LASER cauterizing of ear cropping! NO MORE SUTURES is the way I understand it. They charge about $275 They are top rated and I may just make the drive... prefer 4+ month old Dobes.
Has anyone heard of LASER use on ear cropping?

Baron, you hang in there little guy! Hopefully, he'll look like he joined the Marines.

If they are doing it at 4 months old must be for a very short crop, it would be hard to have a show crop stand at that age.

Hi ProMod,

Laser crops are not unusual--vets that have been cropping with surgical scissors and scalpel for any length of time tend to stick with that as learning to use a laser for any sort of surgery takes some time. I have no idea why but there seem to be more Boxer's cropped by Laser than Dobesl

I've done some aftercare on pups with laser cropped ears and frankly it doesn't seem to make much difference in the long run. Marginally shorter edge healing time. The possibility of suture reaction in the ear edge is nil since there aren't any sutures but for aftercare it makes no difference.

I hope you've actually checked out that business of the vet wanting to crop at 4+ months. Some small breeds are routinely cropped at that age (min pins, Standard Manchesters) but for larger breeds it is usually much better to crop between 8 and 12 weeks--otherwise you start running into problems with posting the ears and getting them to stand. (mostly because the cartilage is much "harder" after 12 weeks).

Ear crop

Does anyone know, once a doberman's ear is cropped does the ears out a lil more? When do you have to put the taping on the ear once the ear are cropped?
