Exclamation Ear Cropping in Eastern Ont.

Hello,

I'm trying to find a vet who preforms ear cropping as close to the Quebec border as possible please.
Cropping is now illegal in Quebec. The last litter I bred (8 years ago) I used Dr. Marcil in Howick QC who did beautiful crops.

Dr. Staples was the other I knew of in Ontario, but he was in London Ont. which is quite far to be driving with 7 week old puppies. I also hear he is now retired.

I've managed to find one other near Toronto, but I'm not too thrilled with the crops I've seen coming from that vet.

Going to the US for cropping is also not an option due to the new import requirements of the USA where puppies must be a minimum of 4 months of age. (30 days after receiving rabies vaccine)

My litter isn't until next year, so I have time to find a vet I like, however I'm at quite the loss as to where to take them.

Does anyone know of any other vets near Cornwall, Ottawa, Brockville, or Kingston area?

Thank-you very much!

Staples is your best option, or into the states. Several breeders have been going into the states and have at this time had no issues traveling back and forth.

While there are a couple vets in the Ottawa TO area that do functional crops, they aren't outstanding by any means.

I've known no deeper love, than that from my beloved Doberman

Thanks for your reply. Staples is confirmed as being retired. I was informed his daughter has taken over the practice, but is not preforming ear cropping.

The new import rules came into affect this year in January. It was my original plan until I just learned of the rabies requirement.

I may still attempt it, but I would still like to have some vets to fall back on. I would hate to be stuck with puppies due for ear cropping and no idea where to take them.

Is there a Doberman Club in your area? If not maybe contact someone at the DPCC and ask them for info on what cropping Vet breeders in your area are using.

Yes, there is a new one, just established in Montreal. I'm not a member yet, but I will inquire.
There is no official club other than they near me I believe.

I never thought to contact the DPCC. I'll send them an e-mail. Thanks!

I called Dr. Staples yesterday, and they confirmed they are no longer cropping =[
I would love to know who your breeder went to if you find out. Thank-you!

Maybe ask on the Doberman Pinscher Breeder Listings group on Facebook?

The girl in my profile picture was cropped by Dr Staples (nearly six years ago) before coming out West. If he is still performing crops I would not hesitate to use him!!
