| Switching from AKC to CKC Hi everyone! My Trinity is AKC registered and I heard it was possible to switch her registration to CKC so we can compete in CKC events. Does anyone know how I go about doing this?

| CKC has a web site that explains the regestration requirements and how to do it. Also then your dog would be dual regestered and you could compete in either. It should be simple if you are a resident there. |

I hope I havnt missed anything? you also can apply for a ERN # that maybe easier.... that will allow you to compeat in all CKC events. ;-) |

| Thanks for the replies! I will look into the ERN # before deciding which I should do.

| If you live in Canada you have to register the dog in Canada, an ERN number is only for dogs that live outside Canada but are being shown here. Quote:

While you'll still get a certificate, the CKC doesn't recognize it as an official title. Obtaining an ERN number is about the same cost as applying for full registration.
With full registration, as someone mentioned - you need a microchip or tattoo that meets CKC requirements. The microchips that are acceptable cannot be found anywhere in the US to purchase, so you'd need to buy a canadian one from the CKC and have it implanted. That does make things a little more tricky.
But, if you just want to give CKC events a try - you can enter with your AKC# and then pay a 'listing fee' for each entry (usually $5-7 extra per entry). If your dog gets no points/awards then you don't have to do anything - if your dog does get points/awards, then you have 30 days to submit for full registration or ERN. It's less time consuming to get an ERN number, and you do have the option of converting an ERN into a full registration if you wish (for the price of full registration).
Hope that helps!

| Hi Marlee, hope you don't mind if use your thread to ask about going the opposite direction.... as I'm curious now what is involved in registering a CKC reg'd Dobe with the AKC. Thakoon's sire is AKC reg'd, and I'm pretty sure his Momma is now AKC reg'd also. I'm not really concerned about forms or fees, as they are what they are. But I'm wondering if the microchip requirement is the same when registering with the AKC. |

Hope that helps! | Thank you it does help! I actually live in Canada but bought my puppy in the States. (I live fairly close to the American border) It sounds like I won't have any trouble which is good to know. I will have to get the form and phone the CKC to order a microchip. All the advice has been super!
