| Some questions for the Candadians good people. Well my husbands family, some of it, lives in Montreal.
And for all and all, which side is the best?
I dont speak French.. would I be able to live there, is it easy to get into the system?
If on the English side... which parts would you all recommend to check out?
Tell me little bit about your country hehe

| Hey
I'm a little confused about what you mean by "sides". Montreal, on the whole is an extremely english speaking city even though it is in Quebec. This doesnt mean that it is ALL english, but you definitely would have NO problems getting around without speaking french.
When you say "tell me what to check out, tell me a bit about your country" you have to understand that Canada is an EXTREMELY LARGE country. I for instance, live in Southern Ontario, near Toronto, but I am from Ottawa ( north-eastern Ontario). These two regions are in the same province but extremely extremely different.
are you thinking of moving here? or just visiting montreal to see the family?

| I am in Alberta and have only heard nasty things about the "very french" parts of Montreal. If you don't speak french you get treated like garbage. I would never go there. |

| See now this is what I mean about tell me little bit about your country.
My husbands sister when to the English part, outside the French side, said it was really dirty and more crimes... see I dont want just "opinions" I would like more normal information.
We are planing to move, but not this year, next year all will start to happen.
Husband have a rather high education and has been working a long time as a self employer and and we have done the "silly" tests and so far so good.
40% of his family is there and we at a "older" age (40 and up) feels that its important with family, well at all times really but when young and dandy some things sort of comes last with no thinking hehe.
But anyway... I am just wondering if you (anyone) have time to just share little bit of the area you are in.
I would never say, I dont want to learn French... but I can say Yes and goodbye basicly.
So feel free and share a bit with me if you like, I would greatly appreciate it.
Jess

| We if you come live near Montreal its very bilingual they just did a pole that completely english speaking people get jobs anyway though the totally french speaking people cant !!! so i dont see any problem but if you want to be even happier its good to learn the language of the province you are coming to...it makes everything easier and french canadian are very welcoming people and if they see you are trying to speak they will do whatever they are able to help.
Quebec city though is VERY french and people are more opiniated LOL LOL very different from Montreal who has more ethnics backgrounds etc etc
I love my province i live in the country and i feel secure only downtown i would not anymore because sadly now we have street gangs...its a new thing for us here...i would not worry about moving in QC at any time
Hope it helps! |

| I wouldn't say there was an english speaking "side" to Montreal. Most in that city speak both languages, it's when you get into smaller towns that you will not find many english speaking people.
What "system" are you looking to get into exactly?
As for things to check out, it depends on your interests. I wouldn't send someone interested in the arts to check out a hockey game, well on second thought, I wouldn't send anyone to see a Habs game <hehe>.

| I think that as long as you're moving into montreal you won't have a problem with the language barrier at all. Some smaller quebec towns can give you issues if you can't speak french and will treat you differently. I know this for a fact, not from "something I've heard".
I spent a lot of time in montreal as a child and I never felt outcasted because of the language issue at all. As Gunner stated, Montreal is a VERY integrated city that has a lot of ethnicity beyond french and english.
