| | Big Pup | Show Potential Breeders I am currently looking for a show potential bitch. I have looked all over and doesn't seem like most breeders keep their websites up to date which I completely understand with schedules and such, but I am wondering if anyone knows or has heard of a breeder that has or will have some puppies soon. Cambria and Foxfire are two of my favorite breeders. I think their dogs are gorgeous and really like that Foxfire also has working titles. Thanks for your help. |

| If you like Foxfire as one of your favorites, then have you contacted Michelle (at Foxfire) with a request for more info? I know she shows a lot so may not be super speedy at returning calls.
There are lots of really great show breeders out there. Where are you located for some sugestions?
On the west coast there is along with Foxfire, Starlaine, Emerald and Soequel along iwth others.
Also, if you check with Doberman breed clubs in your area they will often have a referal list. |

I am in Florida, but traveling is not an issue for me for the right dog. Its about quality not proximity. |

| Have you tried Pamelot in GA? Or Tiburon? They are both on the East Coast.
Although, starlaine and foxfire have some incredible dogs. I know there is another show/work (agility) breeder in GA. ADAMAS (?) I the think their name is.

| How about a little information about you? I do know of some upcoming show litters, but don't refer without knowing who the person is and a little bit about them.

I mostly work from home as I own an advertising and production company, so have lots of time to devote to my dog and its future. I do not currently have any dogs. I have a fenced in backyard that is being converted from a four foot chainlink fence to a six foot recycled plastic material privacy fence. Have had dogs most of my life up until the last four years. It was then that I decided I wanted my next dog to be able to be shown and started researching which breed I wanted. I decided on Dobermans about two years ago. |

| There are some breeders who not only require you use a handler, but also dictate which handler you have to use. I think it's wrong. If someone wants to learn how to handle their own dog, they should be allowed to as long as they genuinely want to do this and show a concerted effort to present the dog well. It means so much more to have an owner handled champion than one you pay a handler to show. Some handlers can finish anything but an owner handler really has to have a good if not a great dog in order to get him or her finished.
I think it's neat that you intend to start off using a handler but eventually, once you get your feet wet, want to try this yourself. It is a ton of fun and what a feeling when you win!

| I have never heard of that before but i would be appalled if i was forced to use a handler, i am a passionate owner handler and though ive been advised once to put a handler on kratos finishing him myself one day is 10x more glorious Quote:

They generally dictate which handler to use because of personal experience with that handler.

| I have a show prospect bitch from Michelle at Foxfire. Be prepared for an extensive wait..particularly if you're wanting a black bitch. I waited almost 6+ months for a litter I was interested in to arrive and there was no guarantee that there would be a bitch for me until after Michelle and the co-breeder chose what what they were keeping.
Michelle generally requires a handler for newbies. This was actually a good thing for me as Michelle wanted me to use a local breeder/handler who took me under her wing and is a great mentor.
ETA-A lot of breeders will let a show bitch go on a co-ownership. And many of them require a show contract.

| Be sure you familiarize yourself with all the terms in the show contracts for the breeders you consider (I'm not pointing fingers at Cambria or Foxfire... just speaking in general terms here). Sometimes the contracts can be deal-breakers for potential owners for an assortment of reasons. Most breeders are looking out for their dogs' best interests, but they don't all interpret/address/develop relationships with potential owners in quite the same way.
I'd recommend looking at a LOT of dogs, seeing which breeders' interpretations of the standard you like most (which it sounds like you have done), and then begin putting yourself out there. Just be up front about what you want or would like to do with your dog down the road, and don't mask those desires when you're talking to the breeders. I've seen a few people kind of sweep their goals under the rug just to tell a breeder what they think the breeder wants to hear, get the puppy they were hoping for, and then end up bound to a contract with which they weren't entirely happy in the first place.

| I have an ADAMAS bitch from Georgia. Not sure where you are located - sorry if I missed it. She does performance and conformation. She may require a handler for a newbie. She may have a litter in 2 months, not positive and not sure what her waiting list is like.
