| Riots back yard breeder... Edgewood Dobermans.
I knew better but am stubborn and make mistakes a little more often.
Riot was one of them... While her parents seemed friendly she seemed very fearful at a early age. It may be genes, it may be my fault from lack of socialization or a bit of both. Riot is very fear reactive to people and dogs which started young, 16weeks old. Her breeder doesn't health test. She thought that if the puppies made it through cropping and docking they diddnt have vWD. I corrected her after I had riot DNA tested for vWD and she is affected. Although they were kind people I would caution others from purchasing their dogs. I did not see in the house but a few dogs were outside in kennels that had access to a barn.
I was in denial for a while...guess its live and learn!

| How old is she now? Have you tried to work with a positive reinforcement trainer? It might not be to late to help her. You should buy "The Power of Positive Dog Training" by Pat Miller. |

| It's not too late to help your girl become the best dog she can be. I highly recommend getting in touch with a board certified veterinary behaviorist (find them here: Find a Board Certified Veterinary Behaviorist ACVB). While she may never be "normal" she can certainly improve and be happier.

| Grisha Stewart's book on BAT could be very helpful to you, and I'd highly recommend getting Leslie McDevitt's Control Unleashed, both the DVDs and the book, and learning the "Look at That!" game.
If you have access to private lessons, and then a group class of CU, even better.
I hope you can help Riot to manage her fear reactions--that is miserable and dangerous for everyone involved. Best wishes, sincerely.

| Thanks guys I'll look at the links but I don't think there are any training classes close (I work 30-40hrs a week) and she definitely needs structure and consistency... My moms not exactly on board with training she just spoils them.. But thanks, been fighting this problem for a long time and she's only becoming more frightened/aggressive to strange people. She's 15 months old Linda. Sent from my iPhone using Petguide.com Free App

You really need to have someone on the ground, to help you with observation and timing, though. It's vital to be impeccable with your timing and with judging threshold, during those exercises--very hard to do on your own.

| Your or your Moms reaction to her when she does this is vital, too. If anyone is trying to comfort her when she is reacting, that will make her worse, because the comforting is a reward to her for reacting. |

| I know that Linda, I've never comforted her when she has been this way. I tried to do different things.. I think I might of tried to coax her and had treats but it was a no go she's afraid of peoria touching her..
I made a mistake and I will try and do better. After a couple of these kind of experiences you learn I guess.. Sent from my iPhone using Petguide.com Free App
