Cadence is 10 months and I'm sure she will be going into heat soon. I have been around plenty of dogs (in the hospital setting) that are in heat, but I have always spayed my own females before their first heat. I am looking for some experiences at home, tips, etc. I am concerned that she might be uncomfortable? Do you do anything special for/to your dog when she comes into heat? We have a pack of diapers and two different "bitches britches" but I am more concerned with her being in pain/discomfort or irritable? Please help

As far as pain ive never seen a bitch become physically uncomfortable.

Mabel did get hormonal, for her she was sweeter to people and wanted other dogs to disappear..
This isn't the case with all bitches though, some don't change, some get moody in good or bad ways, its hard to say. One bitch I know is usually just "upset" and while still tolerant of people and dogs she's just not herself and seems depressed the first few weeks.

I've also seen some bitches break with diarrhea or upset stomachs at first.

It wouldnt hurt to put her britches on now too btw and do some positive shaping so she's used to them ahead of time.

I let Fei go thru 2 heats. I didn't really notice any behavioral changes and she didn't mind her pants at all. She even got to where she would swing her butt around so I could put them back on after we had been outside. That was cute.
