| black puppies available in midwest Hi, I'm new to this group. I've read through many, many threads, and it has helped narrow down some great breeders; however, they do not currently have puppies. I live in central/southern Illinois, but can drive to other states. My job has just changed in the last couple weeks. I've accepted a position that will only be 2 miles from my house, so I can easily run home during lunch hours. I used to commute 150 miles, round trip to work, so I could't appropriately take care of a dog then. Now, I'm so excite to be able to have a dog again. I've been waiting over 5 years! While some of the frequently referred breeders in Illinois have planned liters for the spring 2013, I was wanting to get one this month, if possible. I have 3 weeks of unused vacation that I will be taking before starting my new position, so I thought this would be great time to have a puppy brought home and get him/her settled before being left for 3-4 hrs at a time (before my lunch break).
While, I'd be ok with adopting an adult dog, my husband wants a puppy, so at least with our first one (once you get one, you need two, right, lol) it will need to be a puppy. I've had puppies in my lifetime, and I've also rescued adult dogs too. But as mentioned, I haven't had a dog for 5 years because of my work schedule, and now it's a great work schedule, and close to home. I'm so excited to be able to have a dog now. Many of my neighbors have dogs, and I've been so jealous every time I see them walking their dogs. Now, I can do this too.
I've, probably, also got a little bit of empty nest syndrome starting, as 5 of our 6 kids in our blended family, have left the nest now. Only my 16 year old daughter is left. I think she's lonely too, lol
While, I'd prefer a male, I'm okay with a female too. Just had mostly male dogs growing up, otherwise, no real reason. I would like a black Doberman though, as does my husband. A couple friends of our, both have black Dobermans, and we love their dogs. Yes, we inquired where they got their dogs, one is a rescue, and the other, I really couldn't find any good information on that breeder, so I didn't' want use her breeder, and think my friend just got lucky with her good dog.
Once old enough, and the vet says it's ok, I plan to jog with our Doberman. I jog 4-5xs a week; can't wait to have a jogging buddy.
Sorry, for the run on. Anyway, if you have information on who may have puppies available (and I'll search this forum to see what's been said good/bad about them too), and maybe we'll find our new addition to our family. As mentioned, I live in Illinois and drive to other states. That's not a problem as I'll have 3 weeks off.
Thanks,
you can PM if that's the protocol or email me |

| Welcome to the forum and good luck in your puppy search!
It's so refreshing when people do their homework.
Did you see if Bruda had any puppies left?

| Welcome from Wisconsin,
Are you looking for show or working lines? What if any plans do you have for your new pup beyond just being a pet and companion?
Who where the breeders you contacted that didn't have a puppy available?
How long are you willing to wait? Finding the right breeder for you and your family dynamics and waiting is so much better and more worth while than rushing and "taking what you can".
Just trying to help find what you're looking for

| I did look at Bruda. I couldn't tell from her site, if the puppies she mentioned were from this year, or another, and if all were spoken for. So did fill out her puppy questionnaire, as well as emailed her. Haven't heard back yet. But if not my first, I'd love to have a future Doberman from her. |

| Bruda and Smackdab, and I looked at a couple other too, from prior forums that kept mentioning them. Some haven't had pups in a couple years. If I have to wait till spring/summer, we can. It's just that I had these 3 weeks open up and would be a perfect way to stay home with a little one. Kinda like the stars aligned, just kidding. I'd rather wait than rush and get an inferiorly breed dog.
As for show or working lines, I'm open to both. My plans are family companion, dog obedience classes, and jogging companion. I jog a lot, but will walk with the puppy until it's ok to start jogging. So no problem with getting exercising, but I'm sure I'll have to get a sweater in the winter, as I exercise outside year round. I'll also take her/him to my daughters school activities for socialization (soccer, track, basketball games, etc). I always thought it would be fun to train my dog to do obstacle courses or other activities, but there really isn't anything near us (under 2 hrs), as my town is pretty rural, so that's why my plans are a pretty basic family companion. We've recently begun hiking, so that would be another activity to bring a dog along with too. Oh, and we have a cat. |

Can you roll your vacation over until you find the right situation...a doberman puppy is like having a suicidal toddler on speed. |

| haha, I remember what my Boxer puppy was like (although that was over 10 years ago), then when he hit the fun/calm age of 5, I let him stay with my ex-husband because of my work. Wanted a Doberman then, but my ex was afraid, so we compromised on a Boxer. Now, I finally get to have my Doberman. I tease my friends with them, that I'm going to take their dogs home.
Can't roll it over, since I'm leaving that hospital, so it's a use it or lose it. But I'm willing to wait till spring/summer or later, if need be, to find the right speed demon for our house, lol. |

| Hi and Welcome to DT Illinois Doberman rescue occasionally gets in puppies and always have a lot of young dogs that need homes. Puppies do go quickly so it would be beneficial to go through the application process and be pre approved if a puppy comes into the program.

| I actually did filled out an application at Midwest Doberman Rescue (just did it yesterday). I'll probably go through a breeder for our first Doberman, I do plan on adopting in the future. As a child growing up, we adopted our dogs from the dog pound, as it was known back then. |

| I'm looking for a black male in the Midwest too, I'm from eastern Missouri (about 50 miles outside St Louis). Keep me posted on your search. I've been looking since October for breeders expecting litters this month and next, and even though its been a long search I know in the end it will be worth it! And kudos for not giving in to BYBs, the Midwest is definitely rampant with those. Good luck!! Sent from my iPhone using Petguide.com Free App |

| I don't have any breeder referrals, but just wanted to say welcome to the forum, you definitely came to the right place for information - there are so many well-respected and knowledgable people within the breed on this board
And kudos to you for doing your research and being a well-informed puppy buyer. You have no idea how nice that is for us to see! Please stick around and of course we can't wait to start seeing the puppy photo threads you will be posting! Good luck
