| | Lil Pup | Reputable Breeders in NY area
First of all, would like to start by saying Hello. New to the forum. I'm looking for my first dobe pup after xmas. Always loved & admired the breed. Was going to wait until i retired to get a dog but my boys are getting older & have never had a dog. Been doing my homework and now the hard part........who are the reputable breeders in the NY area? (PA, NJ, CT) I live in eastern LI & there is only 1 reputable breeder - Kalora. Almost impossible to get a dog from her. She told me to start by looking on the DCPA website which I've done. Have been in contact with Raindance & Kerwyn. They will be breeding soon but not guaranteed to get a dog. I'm looking for a family dog. Not looking to show or breed but want a quality dog. Health & temperament a priority. Figured this would be the best place to get valuable info. Sorry for the long winded thread. |

 | Welcome to DT from over the bridge. Getting a dobe in the tri-state is kinda tough, when looking for Kratos though looking for a show dog, i went to MA they have some good breeders. Try expanding your search if you havent seen anything you like. | |

| Find a breeder you like and then get on their list. I'd recommend going to some shows and meeting people and dogs. Caleb (Laura Jones) is a good breeder, as is Joan Witt of Cha-Rish, Sharon Marinelli of Sharjet, Sue Kershaw of Kerwynd.... really there are several good breeders within a 3 hour drive of you, but they don't have puppies all the time.

| I have a Catawba Dobe (Susan Miller, NJ) and love him! Would go back in a heartbeat! Also know Sharon of Sharjet (NJ), another great breeder. There are several wonderful breeders in that area, these are just the 2 I know best.
I believe Niklby, Cha-Rish, are also in your area.

I Spoke to Laura Jones the other day after she emailed me back informing me she had pups that would be ready to go home around xmas time. I immediately sent her a deposit & plan on taking a trip to visit the parents & pups this weekend. Its hard to find good breeders with pups available. | |

In my particular case I have found support after the sale is not very good when dealing with my puppy's health issues.
