We are looking for a male-older puppy or young adult...

Hello from the Northern suburbs of Chicago! We are a great prospective home for a male Doberman. Combined, we have experience in owning a SCH3 titled import German German Shepherd. Growing up, I had three Dobermans in our family. My husband is a DVM. I am a Nurse. We have a large concrete kennel outside of our dining room. We also have a fenced in large yard. We have no children. We are looking for a show/breed quality male Doberman. And/or are interested in the working sports. I know that breeders have the question application, and we are most willing to complete such; we thought we would try posting on DT if someone out there-- who has quality dogs-- might just have an older boy puppy or a young adult that you were interested in placing in a quality home. Our home is open for you to visit. We are open to suggestions of other breeders to call on our own, if you suggest. We also are prepared to pay for a nice Doberman that we can be proud of. Please, PM us, since we are serious.... I don't know if this is the "usual way" of doing things, but we thought maybe someone may have the "boy Dobe" we are looking for. Thank you!

What exactly is it that you want to do with the dobe? And are you aware that they were a breed made to be with their people? A kennel outside (be it closed in or not) is not really the right place for a doberman.

Edit: I want to add, since it seems like you already have a doberman puppy, what are your plans with that dog?

Yeah, an ethical breeder really won't be impressed by your run, a Doberman wouldn't be happy spending any amount of time in one. I'm also curious about the puppy you already have, since their personality isn't fully developed at just 4 months it wouldn't be a great idea to already add another dog to your home. Would you mind telling us about the puppy you already have?

Please read up on the problems that can come from raising two dogs together.

I am going to post this thread I started a while back on things I look for in a breeder. I am sure PMs will abound about various litters, dogs, and breeding programs. This is all I have to offer.

I'm guessing that the run is just for short periods of time, and that your dogs live in the house with you? I hope that's the case. I would wait until your pup is older before you make another addition. Besides, it will probably take some time to find the right dog.

Thanks Busby for not jumping to conclusions.

Our 22 foot by 12 foot patio, actually, that is fenced in and we refer to as a "run" is just outside of our dining room and is for SHORT periods of time ONLY. Our pup is outside ONLY when myself or my husband is in the dining room and/or kitchen to keep an eye on things. Our pup lives in the house 100% and is, in fact, under my feet now. When we went on a vacation, we took her with us into the hotel for a good socializing experience and she is part of our family. I think posting this was totally a bad idea. People assume they know the answers to comments of which they post. I am not going to deflect every single person's suppositions. Thank you. Happy Thanksgiving!

So, are you looking for a show dog, or just a show/breed quality dog? I was a little unclear on that, but it makes a big difference.

If you are seriously interested in working sports you could try Bursgstaette, there is a 5.5 month old male available from his Ilk Ferrenberg x Ashley Elbenwald breeding.

I can't imagine ANYONE who has a four month old puppy wanting to get another one right away, maybe I'm just paranoid but something doesn't seem right. I have a four month old and I would take my eyes out before accepting another one while I am going through puppyhood with this one, even if it was free and thats saying alot because I love my dogs to pieces. Its a tremendous amount of work with just one to get it right and with your current pup being at the same age as mine, surely you are also at the hair pulling crying in the closet stage of puppyhood with their constant tests on your patience. Plus you are a nurse?? Nurses work longggggggg hours. Sorry to be the skeptic here but I don't buy it. and why on earth would you want to have two males given the same sex agression tendencies in this breed? That is just like a time bomb. Your husband out of all people should know that. Its VM101.

Here's the thing though--by posting what you did, and observing the reactions of your readers...did you not just gain some very valuable information as to how your spiel comes across?

It is misleading at best, and also rather unclear--hence the question about what you really want in a Doberman.

Rather than get upset with an online community, why not take this as a learning experience, and get some feedback on how to present your questions and establish good communication with prospective breeders you may want to work with?

Evelyn Wolfe is on a distinguished road
To all who are worried about the male on male aggression, I feel I must point out that in her post she does state that her pup now is a female. I work in a hospital, not every nurse works long hours, there are family practices that hire nurses and their hours are pretty good. Plus we have on call nurses that only come in for the times that we need them here at the hospital. Plus her husband is a DVM I do believe. There are extinuating circumstances to every situation.
I will say that I was very happy to have my year old dog in the house when I brought Pistol in, my other dog taught him the ropes so to speak and helped tucker Pistol out. I has been helpful having another dog to have a playmate for Pistol.
We don't know the whole story, and she does state that she is willing to let people into her home and willing to be interviewed. I don't think she's asking for a no strings attached handout.

where in her post does it say she has a female? It doesn't. this post screams looking for breeding stock. Just my opinion. I hope I am wrong.

They didn't admit they want a male for future breeding to their female. Failing to explain something is just as telling as explaining it!! "Omission can be just as telling as commission"! In certain cases..And the fact that they didn't get the response they wanted right off the bat, and signed off, tells alot!! Usually a person guilty of some indescretion will fly off the handle to throw the questionnaire off the track!

I have been there done that with a gal that talked the same way!! Made promises she didn't keep, renigged on contracts, talked around her intentions. People like that are notorious for keeping their true intentions hidden...and conning others when they are least expecting it...The sad part about it is the real victims are the innocent creatures that come into the world of greedy and manipulating humans.

I brought Roland home when Ella was 1, thinking it was best to take the hit over the course of continuous years. I would not do that again. My advice would be to wait until your pup is ~3 before getting another pup.
