Here is a link to the DPCA's Breeders Directory. Some of the breeders listed by Sam&Mackmom will be listed there, but not all. If you want to PM me, I can provide you with either phone numbers or an email addy for the breeders listed above. I wouldn't hesitate to get a puppy from any of these breeders!

Thanks for the replies everyone. I think this will be a great starting point. I have lots of research to do still. I want to have all my ducks in a row long before (year or so) making any decisions. I have wanted a dobe for as long as i can remember, so i want to be extra thoughtful throughout the entire process, no matter how long that ends up being! I look forward to hopefully learning from any and all information on your forum boards!

Dr. Wilcox is our boys vet. Talent Dobermans are her dogs. She's wonderful. Our boy is from Wingate and he is nothing shy of amazing in every way. I almost don't want to tell you where we got him because we want another one soon and they are hard to get!!!

Good luck....

It must be a testament to all the great breeders in this area, that I'm having such a hard time finding a rescue dobe around here. Maybe it's time to get on a list for a puppy...

I did fill out the questionaire on the Seattle Purebred Rescue website a few weeks ago, but haven't heard anything back. I know this part can take a little while. Regardless, the 4 dobes they have had on Petfinder in the last month all say "no kids", and I really can't bend on that one since my husband and I plan to have our first child in the next 2-4 years.
I do not want a dobe from a pound or shelter- I want to get one through a rescue that has been in a foster home, been temperament tested, that kind of thing. Do you know of any others in the area, besides Seattle Purebred?
The thing that is unfortunate is that rescues don't adopt out very far from their home base so to speak, so I am very limited here. (I completely understand why- house visits and transportation mainly) It just stinks because everyone says there are so many dobes out there that need a home, but where are they all?? Lol.
Maybe my criteria are too much for a rescue. I can't get a dog that doesn't like kids, and I would really prefer one who can at least tolerate other dogs. Cats don't matter, my husband hates cats so we will never get one.
I would prefer cropped and docked, but those aren't the norm in rescue so I would consider a dog that wasn't cropped.
I have no color or gender preferences at all, and I am not opposed to a dog with some special needs, such as allergies, diet restrictions, etc.
Sooo now that I have ranted, there we are.

was it this one you went to? Seattle Area Doberman Rescue Page you have to send an email every other day or so and call and leave messages to let them know you are serious, they get a lot calls and emails and no follow ups. If you end up feeling the need to go to a breeder, as everyone else have stated there are a handful of ethical breeders here in washington.

Seattle Purebred Dog Rescue

I submitted the form through Seattle Purebred Rescue, and from there they distribute it to the representative of your chosen breed.

I've considered going to a breeder, but I would really love to rescue a dobe that needs a forever home. Also, I'm one of those rare folks who isn't fond of puppyhood.

hmm yeah...well if you want to do a rescue there is always craigslist, I check it quite often just cause. And I see Dobies in need of homes, and there is also petfinder. I have seen a few dobies on petfinder that need a home and have been up for adoption for a couple of months now.

I love the idea of rescues and i am glad they exist. On the otherhand, some of these Dobes were not raised right and can have behavior problems. That can be why some of them end up there............................................. .................................................. ...........

Besides not being allowed to advertise puppies on this website, you are getting shelter/pound dogs confused with rescue dogs. A reputable rescue organization keeps their dogs in foster homes for several months at minimum so that they can be aware of any behavior issues, and if a dog is too damaged, it will not be adopted out to a family.

Good lord, between this blatant advertisement, and the "training" post about holding a puppy by its legs upside down for "at least three minutes," this one's a real superduper winner.
