possible impregnation by 5 month old male?

While our 3 yr old female was in heat, we did not separate her from our 5 month old male at all times as we did not think he could impregnate her. Now she is showing signs of possibly being pregnant. Is this possible?

I suppose it's possible although I think it's improbable. Your bitch is probably having a false pregnancy. Talk to your vet about ultrasounding her to determine if she is pregnant. They can help you figure out the timing. Or just go ahead and spay her now.

Not unheard of for a 5 month old male to be fertile. Spoke to someone recently about a litter of lab puppies (8) born to a bitch that mated with a 5 month male. Get to the vet to confirm the pregnancy and ask about the various options for aborting the pregnancy if it is confirmed. Emergency spay and neuter for both of your dogs would be the first thing I would suggest since this was completely unplanned (I hope).

Of course it's possible. Never underestimate the breeding abilities of a dog. LOL

Now the question is, if she is, what are you going to do about it?

Yes, it's possible. A breeder here used a six month male prior to exporting him.

The advice to take her to a vet is excellent, but I'm curious why do you have a 3 year old that's not spayed? A great solution would be to have her spayed to avoid future issues like this.

Also, since this is your very first post, you might want to introduce yourself in the new members section...
