However, I want all the health certifications, which I thought she said she had..... I am new to the purchasing of a doberman, my family has always had them though. I feel bad that I am supporting them, but I cant afford to just throw my deposite away unless the dogs are ticking time bombs for health issues. Could anyone show me some facts that I have been reading above? | There are two reputable breeders in Colorado that I would recommend contacting for a puppy:
Gallant Dobermans in Golden (Dr. Mona Fasth DVM)

| LK450 you will get more results and answers if you start your own thread in the breeders section with more information about if your willing to travel and how far and what you intend to do with your puppy.
Good luck in the search

| Go to American Kennel Club - akc.org, then go to the Doberman breed description page and scroll all the way to the bottom and click the "puppies" button. You will be directed to a search screen, and you can find Doberman breeders there. However, up until last year, Whitesage was advertising their litters there as well, so you're still going to have to dig around and use your own judgement to select a reputable breeder. |

A better place to start is the DPCA Breeder referral ( DPCA | The Doberman | Breeder Referral). Still not a guarantee of a good breeder, but a better place to start the search.

| I very seldom post on here, I lurk and learn. Why do people want advise and then just do the wrong thing anyway? I waited 3 1/2 years for my girl. |

| She's done it again! If you read through this chain, you'll see that Amaya had a litter of pups in January and early June; and Rhonda Lawrence just posted on her website ( Home - WhiteSage Dobermans) that Amaya is due to deliver another litter on November 15th. That's THREE litters for Amaya in 2012.
And FYI everyone ... it's been over a year that Astro's (one of the studs Rhonda highlights on her website) owner refused to provide semen to Whitesage. Once she was informed of the Lawrence's breeding practices, she was appalled. |

| You MUST ask for pedigrees from Whitesage I continue to track Rhonda Lawrence's postings on her Whitesage Dobermans website, and she has just posted that she has bred Nikita to Houston We've Got a Problem.
The name of this stud says it all. I believe this litter is as inbred as you can possibly get.
The Lawrence's bitch, Kiaha, is Houston's dam. It is likely that Nikita was born of the Kiah-Houston litter whelped on 1/19/2011. (Yes, a mother to son breeding.) An now Nikita was just bred back to Houston, her half-brother sire.
AND--she's asking a higher price for these pups. Puppies are adorable, and her pricing is palatable for most budgets--BUT life expectancy and numerous health issues are greatly compromised. |

So I am not sure what to do. I am just looking for a companion and exercise partner. I don't think I need to chase these prestigious bloodlines, I'm not going to breed or show the dog. Health is important to me, but there is never a guarantee with any dog. So I told her I would get back to her. http://www.dobermantalk.com/images/smilies/strong.gif
Thanks for input, this forum is great. | Have you considered a rescue by chance then? |

Is this the new approach? If so, it is better than losing the whole thread...

| Avoid this breeder. They don't do health testing, they are true backyard breeders, and the quality of their dogs in both health and temperament can not be trusted.
I didn't know better, I was 17 and had never had purchased a puppy before (we always rescued all of our dogs) I hadn't done my research, I had no idea what I was doing, and I bought a beautiful puppy from them about 9 years ago for $900.
I loved him to death, but he was incredibly unstable. We had a wonderful behaviorist who specializes in aggression that worked with us and my vet for years and years. It was manageable with lots of work, and ultimately, medication, but it was clear that his anxiety and aggression was not normal.
I never returned to the breeders for help, because it was pretty clear that they were a big part of the problem, and my focus was to take care of my dog and do what was best for him. Plus, I was really unhappy with the way they treated us after we had paid for the pup. At his follow-up vet appointment to get the stitches taken out of his ears, they showed up, took my puppy into the vet's office, and wouldn't allow me to join them. At the time, I didn't know that this was uncommon. At that time, they also casually mentioned that his off-site father was a bit of a "spaz", but was being trained for "protection".
My dog also had a host of health issues, including thyroid, and in the end, wobblers. I wouldn't trade him for the world, because he honestly was my best friend despite all of the issues. I loved him so much, and I think I was supposed to have him in my life, but I would absolutely NEVER recommend this backyard breeder. They just aren't responsible.
I lost my boy in May after a very long struggle with Wobbler's. I am finally ready to find a new puppy, and I am so disappointed to see so many ads for Whitesage Dobermans on the internet in my search for a good breeder, I just wanted to give a heads up! |
