I have been an onlooker of DT for over two years. It took me so long to join because all of the questions I've had about my doberman have been answered in some form or another. I, however, have never in my life been so disgusted at what I've read about Hungs. I personally have a female doberman from Hungs. She is almost two years old and is ABSOLUTELY the healthiest and smartest doberman I have ever come in contact with. I have owned four dobermans and she takes the cake! The funny thing is, I've known many people who have purchased these 'prized' dobermans you all seem to know and love for thousands of dollars and almost everyone of these dobermans have had serious health problems at one time or another. I paid under $1000 for an IMMACULATE doberman from Hungs. Sure the dogs at Hungs don't eat their food out of silver platters, but these dogs are VERY much loved and very well taken care of! All of the people who knock him down for having 'poor' conditions and for running a so-called 'puppy mill' have most likely never even been on his property. You all act like a class of middle schoolers, which I know well of since I am the mother of a 13 year old. Making fun of the breeder for his weight and insulting his intelligence shows that you all do not have the best interest in mind for the dobermans, you just want to make yourselves feel better and attack a breeder that you are most likely, deep down, insanely jealous of. His success burns you all up.

I know for a fact that his dobermans are shipped all over the world. In fact, 17 of his dobermans are used for security in the Philippines. How many of your $2000 dobermans, or any dog for that matter, have come from any breeder that holds such high award. He has rescued dobermans from being put down. How can you say that he doesn't care about his dogs? Also, the photo-shopping that you all seem to accuse him of is NONSENSE. I can promise you that none of the dogs are photo shopped. They are a European blood-line and are essentially a bigger breed. My female doberman weighs 90 lbs and stands 28 inches tall and is in, like I said before, immaculate condition. I am sorry if your expensive doberman does not look as good as his do. I guess you all are doing the best you can, sitting behind your computers and insulting someone and something that you have no idea about.

lol... welcome to DT firstly...

I love it how it's always "jealousy" that apparently fuels people to be unappreciative of poor breeding practices....

Anyway... I'm glad your young dog is healthy and smart.... actually I've yet to meet a "dumb" doberman, but I digress....

I do have to say if she is actually 28 inches... she is over-sized and non standard. Not that it's the end of the world... but good breeders breed for a standard, not supersize.

My female is all euro and is 24"-25" and 74 lbs. IMO she's a substancial bitch. I wouldn't want her any larger.

Anyway, I wish you the very best with your dog. But I'm afraid I still cannot give the green light in my opinion of your breeder. I'm not even going to go into everything. Seems like it's already been said.

You've just got to live with opinions :) It's a big world out there and most of the time, you just aren't going to get everyone to agree with you.

A 28" female would have a disqualifying fault (over height) in Europe, according to the standard used there.

The ideal height range in that standard for bitches is 63-68 cm. That works out to 24.8 to 26.8 inches. Any dog whose height deviates more than 2 cm. from the range has a DQ.

I am not trying to open a new can of worms, but I hate hearing people comment on breeders they have never even met or have never even set foot on their property. I know that he cares about his dogs because he teared up as we signed the papers for the doberman I purchased from him. He spends more time with his dogs than most people spend with their kids. On the jealousy issue, I was talking about the ones who made fun of his weight. People pick on others appearance when they are jealous. Just a plain point.

What shocks me is that you all want dobermans that are lap dogs. A doberman to me is protective working dog. My doberman is also a member of the family. If I didn't want a protective dog, I would have gotten a poodle. In my opinion, I like bigger dobermans.

Bottom line: If you can't run with the big dogs, stay on the porch!

There is a difference between being ignorant screaming I CAN'T HEAR JOOO like a child and thinking you are right, and researching countless hours on a subject and saying 'um, I don't think you are right because of x, y, and z.'
In my experiance, ignorant people tend to be the ones screaming, about anything, and the educated say their point and walk away. Because argueing with ignorance is like talking to a wall and anyone with a shred of intelligence knows walls don't have ears.

There are people here who have Dobermans from this breeder. He left some of his dogs sitting in shelters, so there are people here who rescued dogs from those shelters. If he is such a great breeder then WHY did he leave some of the dogs he bred to die in a shelter? Doesn't seem so great to me.

Tell me, with 90 dogs or whatever on site that are kept outside (not in a house) how exactly does he spend more time with his dogs than anyone here? My dogs are with someone for about 23 hours a day, they are never left outside in a pen by themselves- they are domestic dogs, pets, not freaking cows or sheep.

And there are dogs on that website that are overweight, you can't hide that. It's cruel to keep a dog in an overweight condition, simple. No good breeder or pet owner would keep their dogs fat.

So you are saying if you don't want a protective dog, get a poodle, well I am saying if you don't want a medium sized dog- GET AN ENGLISH MASTIFF! It swings both ways sister.

So your family dog isn't a lap dog then? You don't want a dog that wants to be close to you? Part of why a Doberman is such a great personal protection dog (note personal protection, not sheep or property protection) is because they form such close, strong bonds with their owners, and hey if my dog wants to be close to me and cuddle all the time then that's even better- but trust me she is no less protective of me because of it.

See, the thing about this breeder is, he isn't selling working dogs. None of his dogs work. Unless you count breeding as work, because they are breeding machines. If you wanted a working dog, you would go to a working dog breeder, such as some of the breeders on this forum who participate in working sports and have proven working dogs.

From the Dobermantalk Manifesto:

You need to look around and decide if this is the community you want to be part of. We have some very strong beliefs here. Our first and for most is that we want to better the breed, so we are very passionate about this and everyone needs to be aware of this. Our community is very dedicated to welfare of the Doberman. They will always have the interests of the Doberman first.

Since you have been lurking for 2 years, I'm sure you are well aware that there are NO Hungs Iron Kennel supporters here :)

No, no they're not. That Euro greeder marketing crap won't fly here.

Biggs suggests that you follow your own advice and get back on the porch / under the rock / bridge.

I was just looking around my living room at my dogs all comfy on the couch and in the chairs and on their Costco beds, and thinking about their pedigrees which are full of champions, performance titled dogs, longevity certified dogs, etc. I was thinking about the championships they've earned themselves and/or their points, the performance titles they've earned, the temperament tests they've passed, thinking about how most of their health testing is done and up to date, and man, I just couldn't help this intense feeling of jealousy rising because of .... what? What exactly? Oh right, I'm not jealous at all. Just sad for all the dogs he has that never do anything but breed.

I can't believe how sad it makes me to look at this breeders site. The pictures posted of the dogs in his possession are just so sad. These are the sort of pictures that I'd imagine people would get if they snuck onto a puppy mills property- I'm amazed that he put the pictures onto his site himself! Apparently people think that its okay to treat dogs this way, though, because he's still making money.

God. Half of the pictures are taken through wire fencing. Most of the pictures of his blue stud dog, Zeus, are of Zeus digging a hole for himself because he apparently doesn't have any other way to get out of the heat.

Most of the pictures of the bitches are when they're pregnant, which is just heartbreaking- if they even got to spend one heat without being bred, there would be some pictures with a fit little figure, wouldn't there?

The picture in the link below stuck with me though, don't think I'm crazy but there's something beautiful about it- in the only way a picture of an animal treated so poorly can be beautiful. Its like it should be in an issue of National Geographic on puppy mills and neglect. The barbed wire is strangely perfectly placed, isn't it? I think it says everything. This sad boy is just kept in a yard fenced with barbed wire sadly gazing out at the world beyond- but he's livestock. Just livestock.

Dog can be found on menu's in the Philippines. Your breeder sends his dogs there.

Where would one even begin to make any of this make sense...exhausting just thinking about it.

To keep it simple: No. Your breeder is not an ethical breeder.

And neither is your dog's.
