Wingate and Foxfire Dobermans?

My friend recently lost her dog (Lab mix) and decided she's ready for another dog. Her brother and father both want a Doberman Pinscher, and I told her they were great dogs for the right people (and I think her family is suited to own a Doberman). So now they're looking into a Doberman pup from a breeder. They have time and experience and a willingness to learn and raise a puppy, but they don't know about finding reputable breeders.

I've searched around for local Doberman breeders and found two I really like, both show lines.
Foxfire Dobermans in Oregon
Foxfire Dobermans - DPCA Accomplishments

and

Wingate Dobermans in Washington
Wingate Dobermans

I've noticed a few members here have dogs from Foxfire and Wingate, and would love to hear experiences. A dog in my pup's puppy class is from Wingate, and he's a neat pup, very pretty, and extremely friendly.

My friend and her family have adopted their last two dogs and decided this time it'll be from a breeder. So they're not looking to adopt or rescue, although they know it's a great option.

Also wanted to know, as I will be looking for a Doberman of my own later, if there were any working breeders in the Oregon/Washington area. I love the show lines but have always found myself leaning towards the working line as I like a dog that can work and not just gait around the ring pretty (what I like about Foxfire is that their dogs have performance titles). The only working line Dobe I've met was imported from Hungary, so that's not an option.

Thanks for your help!

I couldn't be happier with my Foxfire boy, and would go right back to Michelle the next time I wanted another doberman.

Not many working line breeders in Washington or Oregon. Sorry but at least in my book, Bonnie's dogs are not really in the category of working line dogs. A working line breeder is one who places performance as the top priority in all breeding decisions. Not to say that she does not produce dogs that may be able to work, but none have ever set the working world on fire, that I am aware of. I agree that Landgraaf in N. Cali has working ability as the top priority, as well as health considerations.

I have been very happy with my Wingate experience! We're constantly amazed at what a wonderful puppy/young lady we have and I wouldn't hesitate to go back to Wingate for another doberman or recommend Wingate to friends and family.

Actually, the Doberman puppy I met at Trent's puppy class is Cali's brother, Wingate's Friday Knight Fever aka Drake. He's a very sweet pup and I liked him a lot. That's how I heard about Wingate.

Thanks for the input and information everyone! I guess it's all down to personal preference for my friend, seeing as both breeders are reputable and produce great dogs.

Absolutely, you will find fans of both breeders in the PNW.

You mentioned the performance titles on the Foxfire dogs - but you will also find those on a lot of Wingate Dogs. The DPCA actually has an award called the Ryan Award named after a Wingate Dog that Kathy Rambo owned Am./Can./Int. Ch. Wingate's Leading Edge, Am./Can. CD, CDX, UD, CGC, TDI, ROM (Ryan) I believe it is for any dog who is in the Obedience and Conformation Top 20 in the same year.

Unless Jody has some puppies still from the litter of the puppy you met, they may have a better chance of getting a Foxfire puppy a little sooner. I think Jody only breeds about once a year.

I apologize for the comment about Wittrock's. Though she may have different goals than I do, I had no right to make the earlier comment.

I don't think you could go wrong with either breeder. I've met both, seen their dogs. Just the fact of simple human decency and they were nice to me won my heart. Plus their beautiful dogs.

Coming from my own experience.
I can't say enough good things about Foxfire dogs.
I love my foxfire girl!
She is sweet, she is smart she is beaulimus!!!!
A LOT of Foxfire dogs have conformation, obedience and agility titles.
They have excellent steady, stable and sweet temperament!
I will go back to Michelle again and again and again for another dobe.

Thank you

To those of you who got back with me with referrals of breeders you know with pups coming. I am in touch with a local breeder that I met this years Doberman Nationals. She is breeding her bitch with a Foxfire Dobe male named Jet and we anticipate the pups in mid Jan. I am sooooo excited to have a Dobe again soon!

My contact with Wingate was good but she had no pups anytime soon, we we can't say as to that--but she was nice to me over email (which I couldn't say about everybody).

On the other hand-- I'm just wrapping up my first month with a Foxfire pup and my first doberman -- and I could not be happier. He's gorgeous, well tempered, everybody loves him! Even my boss, who cannot manage a kind word for anybody, said my dog was gorgeous and sweet tempered. He's invited to my husband's workplace anytime.

I spent several months researching Dobermans and their breeders. I have had my Foxfire for a year now. A Red. AMAZING animal. A great pet first, and absolutely stunningly beautiful. The judges love him, so do the kids. I will go to Michelle again for my next one. You should go somewhere else so I can have more choice from Foxfire .
