When purchasing a puppy from a Reputable breeder, should the breeder give the purchaser CKC registration paper for the puppy on the day of final sale and pick up? Or do they have the right to hold them until you have the dog spayed or neutered?

By CKC do you mean Canadian Kennel Club? If not, that is not a reputable registry (Continental Kennel Club) and I would not buy from that breeder at all. We can help you find a good breeder...please start a new thread.

They should only give you CKC paperwork if the dog is registered with the Canadian Kennel Club. If I remember correctly, in Canada, it is up to the breeder to individually register each puppy in a litter, so they probably are within their rights to keep the registration papers until they have proof of altering, and then transfer the dog to your name only.

If it's Continental Kennel Club paperwork, and that's all they are offering, then they are not a reputable breeder. The Cont. KC is an "industry" organization, originally set up for large scale breeders supplying pet shops, to get around the AKC's Frequently Used Sires program, and now their Limited Registration, as well.
