Looking for my last Doberman

My first Doberman came into my life in 1968, when I was just 19. I am now, at 68, looking for my last one. I'm looking for a red male puppy, to be named Maverick....an homage to James Garner in that movie with Sally Field. You know the one...he was looking to make her his last love too.
I live way back up in the mountains of east Tennessee where my female German Shepherd, Morgan, is trained to guard our home and stay on her own 26 acres, although she really only uses the 5 where the creek runs thru. She is particularly hard on poor possums....but I haven't seen hide nor hair of a bear in years!
If you have a puppy you want to live in a slice of heaven, a puppy who is going to be lucky enough to have a job he loves and kennel I can visit to meet the parents, please contact me. I work in a studio I built on my mountain, so I am home with my animals about 97.2% of the time. I do not need any sort of fencing or pen and I never, ever, have the need to chain my dogs as I train them from puppyhood instead. I DO staple stomachs, there is a lot of running going on here!
If you got a puppy from a breeder you have a lot of respect for, please give me that contact, their reputation is important to me.

Hi Mimi, and welcome to DT. You will find a lot of support and great information here.
Are you wanting a puppy then? I know of no breeders in Tennessee personally.
I do know of several in Kentucky I could recommend. But, if you check with DPCA -
Doberman Pinscher Club of America website, you can find breeders near you, I am sure.
You still have to do your homework and make sure of proper testing, etc.

Thank you. I went to the DPCA site and found some websites but there don't seem to be any puppies at the ones I've looked at so far. Yes, you're right, testing is important to me as well. I am willing to drive further afield as I use to do a great deal of traveling when I showed my Abyssinian cats. I'd be happy to hear your recommendations for Kentucky.

In general, there will often be a waiting list for a good breeder, and I have to say many of them don't have great websites and/or the websites are out of date

I would recommend contacting Ashley Ring of Ashtrick Dobermans - she co-breeds with Kettle Cove quite a bit. I don't know if she has current plans but she could certainly help steer you toward good breeders. She's very nice. ashtrickdobes@yahoo.com.

If you are willing to go a little farther, I highly, HIGHLY recommend Jesaran Dobermans in Virginia. She bred my boy's sire, and I couldn't be happier with his temperament. Lots of longevity in her lines. momdog@swva.net

Hi and welcome to DT.

good luck with your search.

not sure if a rescue Doberman would interest you or not, but if so.........check out petfinder for your area, there might be just the right Dobe there, waiting for you.
