I just wanted to say that I've been thoroughly impressed with Eve Auch of Irongate Dobermans in Truckee, CA. I didn't see tons of information about her when I was doing my research (this is my first Doberman puppy) so I wanted to let others know that I had a good experience. Some of the things that I thought were great:

The puppies were whelped in the house (back bedroom I think) and brought out to the living room for lots of exposure to household noises and interactions with visitors like us around 5 weeks.

She encouraged us to come by more than once to interact with them as they grew, in part so she could get a feel for the type of puppy we wanted (she chooses which puppy goes where). Visits were also for the puppies socialization benefit.

At 5-6 weeks the puppies would start getting outside excursions to the back deck where she had stimulating toys of all kinds for them to play with.

She health tests.

She is concerned with where her puppies are homed.

She is really helpful about giving advice (she is very straightforward). She is a wealth of information.

She has the ears cropped before they go home (required and included in the price). The puppies are also docked and dewclaws removed.

She doesn't allow her puppies to be shipped.

She gives them a great start on house training and crate training by giving them a "litter box" outside their crate where they sleep and takes them outside to go at all the appropriate times (i.e. After waking, feeding, etc.)

She reposts ears for you until ears are up if you live close enough.

There are more than 2 judges--there used to be around 10 but I think a couple of WAE evaluators retired and there are maybe 8 now.

As far as I know an evaluator can do a WAE on a dog of their breeding--what I don't know is if they could have someone take one of their own dogs through the WAE (that is have someone--not Eve nor Roger--take a dog owned by them and living with them through a WAE)--I don't think they can do that but it's a question that Eve could definitely answer.

I've known Eve for years--she is, in my book a good breeder who stands behind her breeding and does it right and is ALWAYS there for her puppy owners.

I am not sure of the ruling, but Eve always encouraged us to go elsewhere to get Duggans WAC, even though it would have been close to go to her.
They had the WAE test here in Utah and a Cara Doberman was entered where the breeder was judge and he was allowed to evaluate him.

I've met a couple of Irongate Dobermans in person and been very impressed. Nice temperaments and she seems to have a nice breeding program. I hope you will keep us updated with your puppy!

Piper is already a dream of a puppy! I can already type a novel about all the cute, sweet, and funny things she does. She is so trainable ... then again we haven't reached the puppy teens ;)

She is suppose to be the family dog, but I have a hard time sharing her. :grin2:

I want to second this. When I was looking I saw that Eve was mentioned a few times, mainly in posts that are a few years old, so, I wasn't sure if she was still considered a stellar breeder.
In the end, the biggest reason I chose Irongate is because almost every post I found mentioned how great Eve's dogs temperaments are. Having a toddler, this was very important to me.
I am extremely happy with my decision. We absolutely adore Riddick, and he is great with our now 2 year old.
Eve always answers any questions that I have. She really is a wealth of information. She helped us get through a spot of puppy mange, and just gave me advice on how to handle kennel cough.
Plus everything busytown already mentioned ?

While I don't know exactly what's involved, my VP Lyn Kargaard recently achieved evaluator status. She said she was in training for a couple of years (or so) and had to evaluate something like 70 dogs? I think, anyway. It was a party, so I know I missed some details.

I don't think Eve has a website. Not all good breeders do :) You may have to drop her an email - I've had a good, thorough conversation with her over email and found her very responsive that way. Or, give her a call. Contact information is on the DPCA breeders page.

I got to see the puppies today! :grin2:

I hung out at Eve's place and helped her get the DNA testing done and photos taken for the puppies she has now. It was really rough having to play with puppies all afternoon. :wink2:

I've gotten to know Eve well enough now that I can no longer say I'm simply an unbiased consumer who thinks she has great dogs. I'm fully biased - she lives and breathes the breed and takes amazing care with her dogs and her puppies.

Awesome! We went out there and visited about a week ago. Wife and I and our two kids went out. She is a wealth of information as you said. We had a great time but I don't think our 7yo son made the best impression. Oh well, she was very helpful and very accommodating. We're looking forward to getting our puppy in a couple of weeks.
