Question on heat cycle

I have an 16 mth old female who was recently in heat at the beginning of Oct. and lasted approx. 17 days. I also have an intact male, who could care a less about the female after the cycle was finished....However the intact male & neutered male has shown interest in her once a again. Is it possible she could be going in heat again?

I look forward to hearing your answers.

When you say she finished - what signs was she exhibiting?
The reason I ask is that in some bitches the discharge will change when they are in standing estrus from bloody to a more clear/straw colored.
Also, some bitches can have a split heat cycle - meaning no ovulation occurred the first time.
Some dogs may also show interest if she is having other discharge.

I would recommend taking her into your vet and having a vaginal smear done and possibly a progesterone so you know what's going on. Especially since she's in the time frame for a pyometra (infection of the uterus) as well.

The cycle is every 7 to 9 months. MMmm they last 3 weeks not all bleeding, One week in no bleeding and 2nd week bleeding. One week out no bleeding this is the time that you breed or most breeders breed. I don't know if it is diffrent on a large dog as this is how it go's on small dogs as we use to breed yorkies.

Actually, every bitch (large or small) is different as to when (# days into their cycle) they are fertile.
Also, the length of the estrus cycle can really vary from bitch to bitch.

Some bitches may cycle every 4 months some every 9 months - again all very dependent on the individual bitch. Cycling more frequently than every 4mos is not normal.
