| all dobes are beautiful, but if you are talking about the conformation ring, I have go along with the previous comments, my first thought, after that isn't a picture to judge by, was the sag in the topline and man do those nails need attention!! nails are a pain, but as dobes need so little grooming, you need to pick a day of the week and do the nails on that day every week- hmm, sundays are just so much fun at my house LOL, especially now that my friend brings her boxer pup over for me to grind the nails on too.

| Ha, ha! Sunday is "pretty toes" day at our house too and and most of the dogs come runnig and lay patiently waiting thier turn - not for the actual nails, but for the bag of cookies! We do 5 dogs or 90 nails as our have their dewclaws still on.
Nails are a pain - especially if they don't like it, but once you get them back, it will be easy to keep them nice and short and you may see a nice improvement in her feet as a bonus.

| Great thread here, not wanting to high-jack the thread but I would love some critique on what the members think of my boy Kuhn.
He is 3 years old in August, complete with natural ears, docked but still has dew claws intact.

| I really hesitate to judge anyone's pet, because I really don't want to hurt feelings. When we critique a dog as a breed fancier, it sounds like we are really tearing them apart - and the average person has a hard time with that. In reality, we need to know what a dogs good and bad points are if we are to make the best breeding decisions. I am my own dogs worst critic - but that does not mean that I love my dogs any less for their faults. As a breed person, I am always looking at my dogs with a critical eye - especially while they are still growing and maturing.
That said, I just can't do any kind of critque of dogs that are not presented in such a way that I can accurately see what I am looking at. It is funny really because I was just stacking one of the puppies from my litter yesterday - he had not been stacked since he was 13 weeks old and he is now 6 months - I made the comment to his owner that stacking is not as easy as it looks ............especially when they have no idea what you are trying to do. It is even harder if the person stacking does not know what to do! I managed to get some 1/2 way decent stacked pictures of him - but it took awhile and it took a lot of shots!
And for those who are wondering, NO I won't be posting pictures of a puppy that I don't own without permission (I don't count co-owning) I consider that rude.

| Therer are a few threads going now on conformation and critiqueing. Is there anyway we can get them all together on one page. I feel it is a GREAT learning experience for everybody. The more you know about our breeds standard the better you will KNOW this breed. |

| The Dobe Lady, she is going to be a big girl when she finishes growing! Her rear is her biggest fault. long in hock, no bend of stifle, she lacks muscleing on the inside of her thighs. As said, topline is 'soft', too round a croup and a low tail set. Leggy girl, but she still has a lot of maturing to do, so her chest may drop more yet. Her loin looks nice and short. Short upper arm, shoulder not bad. Eastie westie right now. Feet are loose and she has a hair foot. Bone ok. Love her big black nose leather, eyes nice color, looks a bit cheeky, good length of muzzle.
Nice coat color and rust markings. |
