| | Big Pup | Euro Standard Dobies in TX Greetings all,
I am new here, and am glad to have stumbled upon this site.
There seems to be many very informative and helpful people here!
I have had a couple of dobies in the past, and am looking of a new member to our family. I am interested in a Euro dobie, but don’t have enough info to make an informed decision.
Can you please direct me to a reputable breeder in TX that you may have used in the past, or had experience with!? There is no rush on the purchase, as I’d like to take my time and make the right choice. I would greatly appreciate the help, thank you! |

| It is quite probable that you will have to expand your search beyond one state. Each region may have some decent Euro breeders but your chances are a lot better if you look further than just your backyard (even though Texas is a pretty big backyard). |

| Welcome from AZ. Try USADobermann.net - Home Page - for some working breeders. Buyer beware though as not all on there (or on any breeder list) are great. |

I think I will have to do that. The only one I found, so far, is Britton farms, and I don't know too much about them!?
What are the primary differences between the Euro and the American line?
I have not been successful in finding enough literature on comparative differences.
Are there any main advantaged to either, or just the aesthetic differences? |

Thank you, are there any you recommend/have experience dealing with? |

| | Big Pup | I have read some of the threads from other members on the differences, and have gain quite a bit of knowledge. This is a forum of some very passionate individuals indeed (rightfully so - both have some remarkable and accurate points)!
Just an FYI, to anyone looking for info on this, use the search engine as the threads are quite long and detailed!
Both have some wonderful qualities – just depends on what you’re looking for! It would be great to find some breeders with different degrees of both qualities and a standard that is acceptable by both sides. |

| | Alpha | Im pretty sure some will contact you because of your post. Just make sure to ask about anyone who does on the forum.
Any place with a big back yard has a LOT of backyard breeders.

| If you don't know the difference, what makes you want one over the other?

Well I know the aesthetic differences and have read the differences as far as standards are concerned; however, IMO reading about a breed and living with them can be two completely different things.
I am sure you would agree - after owning a Doberman the info you read in books/net prior to your purchase, can not capture the “experience” of owning the breed, especially how goofy and lovely they can be (like insisting on sitting on your foot when there is plenty of room, lol).
In addition, from what I’ve learned thus far, and what I’ve read here, the Euro breed is quite different as far as working drive is concerned, but how about as a pet?
I thought the best place to start asking questions would be those who actually breed them and/or own them. |

| There is a thread on Britton Farms. I don't remember it being very favorable. What do you want to do with the dog? work, show, companion? |
