Very few lawyers make 6 figures a year, it's a major misconception that they all make big money! Besides...I spend all my money on my dog and cats anyway.....rofl | So true! I am thinking about going to law school down here in the states but am hesitating due to all of that after-graduation debt!
As far as the deposit goes, are deposits generally refundable in the dog world? I know most chinchilla breeders (myself included) require a 50% non-refundable deposit to hold an animal. The deposit is only refundable in the event that I back out of the sale. This is just the way it's done in the chin world but I have no experience with it as far as dogs go because I don't breed dogs and haven't gotten to the point where a deposit is needed for my Dobe yet.
Sorry if I'm threadjacking, I was just curious! |

| Ugh! The diabolical punctuation and grammar on their website would have put me off straightaway.
Sorry, I call BS on this bloke - 'squirrels'!!!???!!! If he's upset at the slagging he's getting on this thread, maybe he shouldn't have given so much ammunition? |

YES YOU DO!!! Novascotia! Big trouble, loud trouble and "Bring it on" kinda trouble! That's bullsh**! Stinks, I don't blame you for feeling ignored. A breeder that doesn't send photos or info or return calls??!! Ridiculous, let the trouble starting begin baby!!!
PS. spend hours and hours here on DT,so much to learn! As you can see we all like to put in our 2 cents. Some of us put in even more ;-)

Sorry if I'm threadjacking, I was just curious! | Unfortunately most deposits I have heard of are not refundable. It is money being pledged towards a purchase. Most websites will say nonrefundable deposits but if the purchaser can ask for it back why bother getting the deposit. I mean the purpose of getting a deposit on a puppy or anything is so that if you hold it, the puppy or item and they back out you can recoup your losses while you readvertise. It is not being sold to anyone else during this time.
Granted, in the case of animals(a Bengal cat breeder comes to mind) this can be complex because litters get sick, pups don't pan out to be show quality, testing comes back less than perfect and your color/sex never appeared. I have been lucky as the breeders I have dealt with usually do give me back my money but it has always been the pup was not "there" when the litter was born.
I never took deposits unless the litter was of sale age because my money went straight to my feed store/vet fund that was always limping if I had a litter of puppies. (Would I have a litter to make money, no, you spend a lot first.) If anyone changed their mind I would have had to take it from the house money and my ex always thought that was like the ultimate sin.
I have not had a breeder not communicate though. Hopefully, after reading this people will spend more time communicating before a deposit. |
