| | Lil Pup | Breeders in TX Ive spent quite a bit of time perusing the forum and have seen a lot about who not to get a pup from in TX (Giles), but not too many suggestions about who really is a reputable and conscientious breeder. I don't plan on getting a dobe for a while, but would like to get as much of this part of the decision making process out of the way as I can so i can get on a waiting list of some sort if necessary. So i guess if somebody has had good experience with someone in or around central texas, any input/advice would be appreciated.
These are just a few that Ive found that don't seem like puppy mills: Garrett's Dobermans Puppy Site Rancho Lago Champion Doberman Pinchers Chez D Dobermans - Home http://members.aol.com/bydesignk9/index.htm
There are other breeders listed on dpca.org, but without websites. If anyone has any experience with them an evaluation would be greatly appreciated.

| Boy are you mistaken on some of these. Comparing Brimor and Giles is way off base. Brimor (Judy Brown) hasn't bred a litter in a couple of years. She is an AKC judge. She has bred lots of champions in the past. Her "partner" which is an x-partner now cause Deb Johnson went off on her own and is now Tropix Dobermans, has bred alot of really nice dogs over the last several years and some have the Brimor kennel name.
Giles is a puppy mill.
Garrett's is a pet breeder who does NO health testing and knows nothing about pedigree's. Chez D and By Design show their dogs and have decent dogs. I'll have to look up Rancho lago. I've never heard of them. Any others in TExas you want to know about please ask. I lived there for many years and know alot of them.
Looked up Rancho Lago, I don't know her at all. I recognize some dogs in the pedigree's but have never heard of this kennel or person.

| How about Nikki McClendon of Merrimac Dobermans? We have a member of this forum, Clipclop, who has a new puppy from her. You may want to ask her. |

| | Lil Pup | Well, my thoughts are that since she had a litter in the recent past, she might not have one for a while (I will however, check, when the time comes.) I thank you for the suggestion, and will definitely check w/ her as the time approaches (hopefully soon). jdd, any input/advice you have would be appreciated as well. I would simply like the most healthy, receptive/good natured, and forgive my saying but mean/"protective" looking dobe i can find. I truly am sorry for the mistake of my first post, I got Brimor and Britton mixed up. My priorities are in the order listed. I have had a dog my whole life, and the main reason I am investigating possible breeders is that, the best dog I have ever had the pleasure of owning and training myself was a Lab that I saved and worked for when I was a youngster. He is now 8 approaching 9, and I would like to be able to socialize my next dog with him simply because of how well mannered, easy-going, and agreeable he is (role-model?). Anyway, I love my current dog and would like any personality traits he is capable of passing on to carry over. |

| Good for you for doing homework... Nikki might be able to help you if you are willing to show your dog.... and by help I mean place one of her puppies with you... she is a great resource however and will probably be able to tell you who has litters coming up. I am in TX and I started calling people on the DCPA list and they all pointed me in the right direction... good luck!! You will find a pup! |

| Does anyone know anything about Green Acres Dobermans ( Home Page) in the Dallas, TX area?
They were recommended by a friend who says they are good breeders and they do not "look" like a pup mill or kennel. I just thought I would ask before I made contact. Thanks for any replies. |

| | peace out dt | Well, I don't see any titles or even any attempts, at that. Though the one bitch does say she is training for agility. I see no health testing, which doesn't mean they don't do it, but you should ask. I don't see any pedigrees, which are an important thing to see. You need to e-mail the breeder and ask a lot of questions, these just being a few of many. It's your money, you deserve the most for it. I personally would not buy a dog from them even if you paid me, but, that's JMO.
As a side note, some of their puppies were almost completely lacking rust markings and I didn't find that at all attractive but that's just me. |
