| Questions about a breeder? I am not new to the forum, but am new to posting. I have been looking for a red doberboy for 3 months now and think I have found a good breeder but would love all the help a novice could get. The breeders name is Carla Waldeck. The kennels name is Carlou kennels. They seem very sincere, and say they have rescued all types of animals, including farm animals. Their mission statement says they are in good standing with the AKC and are members of the CSPCA. In the following I will include a link to the site so please tell me what you think. index The Sire is Gotti EA's Von Waldeck, and the dam, Heizen Waldeck Von Der Weise. I would love all opinions good or bad, but thats impossible because no opinion is bad. Also I have found it is really, really, hard to get ahold of the breeder and haven't recieved any call- backs, but I can see this happening because they only want people who are serious buyers, and everyone has lives and can't call back every Tom, Dick, and Jane who calls about their pups. IMO I really like this better because it shows me that they really do care about furthering the breed. I could be wrong though. PLEASE HELP!!! |

| they just look like a less ignorant BYB. I dont see any cardio testing on their site and their dogs have no titles proving anything conformationally or temperamentally/working. Like many BYB's, they put epmhesis on big name dogs in their pedigress and those dogs acomplishments. I think you can do much better.

If it's serious inquiries they're looking for, they should be serious themselves in responding to those inquiries.
Since you say they are "really, really hard to get ahold of," I wonder if they would be equally as hard to get ahold of say, a year down the road when you have one of their puppies and are looking for help/assistance/support with something. Just something to think about. Quote: |

| Hmmm, well not exactly. Screening homes/buyers shows they probably care about their puppies' placement, but this doesn't really do anything to "further the breed." IMHO, a breeder who is passionate about bettering the breed goes to great lengths to find the BEST stud dog for their own champion and/or performance titled, and health tested bitch. The stud himself is also titled, ideally on both ends, fully health tested, and if he's already a proven producer, then even better.
The breeding you are interested in does not appear to meet this criteria. I'm sure these people are indeed sincere and probably mean well, and it's really nice to see they are keen on rescue, but the website speaks for itself: "Our goal is to produce..."

| I think the best thing this breeder ever did was not contact you back. I'd keep looking personally, I'd never want a dog from there.

| as someone else said I think you could do better....but I also think you could do much worse.I my self found it stressfull buying my new pup.I attempted to do the right thing and buy from a good breeder. but that proved hard! since I kept getting rejected....for reasons like no fenced in yard-small children....and I could name a few other reasons but I think you get the point. if you are after a pet I myself dont think it is awfull to buy from a decent BYB if you cant seem to get a pup from a good show breeder.often many really good show breeders only have a litter once a year or sometimes once every 2-3 years! and when they do have a litter the pups are often sold before they are even born.or the breeder wants to sell them to show homes.it can be a nightmare trying to find a puppy! |

| this is just my opinion from a quick look at the website, I would pass, I don't like the dam just by her picture, sorry to be so subjective, and the sire, interesting that he is available to lease, buy or co-own, any reseasonable offer accepted- what is that? and they say they test, but they didn't post any of the results, for all we know they could have all vWD affected dogs.there are much better breeders, check out the dpca breeder list and take a look at who is in your state if you want someone close to home.

It seems that it IS very hard for them to find the pup they want for a variety of reasons. I think the 'newbies' could teach us breeders a thing or two when it comes to why they select a certain breeder and puppy! |
