If you want a beautifull dog and do some shows I would say yes Neerlands stam is your choice but don't be fooled with a ipo or schutz 3 on a showdog in Europe. How does it come that you never see those dogs on a big working trail?

Hey Frank

I got your pm. I visited Monaco a few years ago when I first decided on buying a pup for schutzhund. I only met 3 of their dogs and very briefly. They were individually brought in to the living room from the basement for about 10 minutes each. I didn't like how the dogs looked or behaved. When we were discussing what I wanted the puppy for, their attitude was these dogs are from Euro lines and will therefore excel in the sport regardless of the fact they never work their dogs or the dogs they breed from. They almost seemed insulted I would question this "fact" if they never worked or titled their dogs how could they be so certain of the dogs' ability. I remember also being unhappy with how the conversation went when I asked about the what ifs of the puppy's health, but I honestly don't remmber the details.

Hope that helps.

Just an update after further investigation - here is what I have found about the membership section of Monaco Dobermann.

Monaco is in excellent standing with:

The American Kennel Club

I called the AKC today, and advised that there has not been a dam and litter registered under Monaco Dobermann's since 2000. No further information is posted.

The Doberman Pinscher Club of Canada

Currently not listed as a member. Molly advised that because she doesn't "show" her dogs anymore, she cannot register with the DPCC. Hmmm I challenged on that point, since there are breeders listed that currently do not show.

The Dobermann Club of Holland

Emailed club president for information.....waiting on reply.

The United Doberman Club - must be voted in as well as sponsored by (2) other members.

I contacted the UDC, and spoke to the Canada rep. Advised that she is not a current member.

The Belleville Kennel Club

Not listed on website as a member breeder - but also left voice mail to inquire about this.

You're doing a lot of investigation Frank. I like that it means that you're very serious about getting the right dog?

Thank you bonzo. After researching I realized not everyone has the integrity and determination to better the doberman breed as "advertised". I really wish that I didn't have to find out this way that Monaco has falsely advertised on their website. But I feel it's necessary (especially for potential buyers) to realize that what you hear isn't what you get (Point in case at the memberships she claims on her site above).

Luckily I met a wonderful breeder today, and I'm VERY excited.

Yes I spoke to her and she doesn't show anymore. It's funny that was he reason for not being a member of the DPCC - I mentioned that other breeders on there do not "show" also...

Hi Frankp, I'm glad you have started this thread as our
family is considering getting another doberman and
Monoco was one of the breeders we had thought about
going to. After reading this thread I am leaning towards
Nightflight or Gatehouse and I will try to find time to visit them. How is your breeder search going as we live near you and will most likely be researching the same breeders.

Wink Neerlands Stam dogs...

Well I don't know this Monaco Dobermanns, so can't comment about her. But I do know a little about Neerlands Stam...

Neerlands Stam has been breeding dogs since 1942 and striving to produce sound dogs structurally and temperamentally ever since. Han took over the kennel in 1968.

He strives to continue improving structure and temperament, as evidenced by producing Graaf Hajo Gino v Neerlands Stam (a Gino Gomez son who was the 2003 Vize-World Winner as well as the 2004 DV Sieger, Club Winner and EuropaSieger). The dog is also a SchH III, IPO III, SpH/FH, ZTP 1A-V dog with all health clearances.

To his credit, (or maybe Gino's!), he also produced Graaf Humphrey v Neerlands Stam. Humphrey is also a conformation champion who happened to pass his Korung in Germany. Humphrey is well known in working circles winning numerous Regional IPO III Championships, as well as placing 3rd in the 2004 Dutch National IPO III Championships. And again, passed all his health clearances.

Han continues to strive to bring in temperament as evidenced by his current litter on the ground by Blade van het Wantishof. Blade himself has won numerous Regional Championships, as well as placing 3rd at the 2006 Dutch National IPO III Championships and winning the 2005 Dutch National IPO Championships in IPO II.

So despite their "show" lines, both these dogs have more than proven themselves on the SchH/IPO field. But of course, they both carry Quirinius and Baron Bryan (both "show" dogs) as a lot of the working dogs do.

Now granted, their emphasis is not purely sport regardless of what the dogs look like (like a lot of the purely working lines), but they certainly can do the work even if they do come from sound, health tested, show lines.

Besides, isn't that what the "TOTAL DOBERMANN" is all about?

Blade van het Wantishof is indeed a great dog an so is his owner Herman Visser, I know Herman personally and he is a great guy. And I agree that a dog like Quirinus is in some workpedigrees (I even mentioned that in one of my posts) But IMO Neerlands stam is much more focused on show than work although that's fine by me. On the subject of the results of some of Han's dogs: a good handler is as important as the dog itself if you know what I mean. The difference is IMO again if you would let's say take a burgstatte litter or whatever pure workingline, close your eyes and take a pup from it, you're going to be able to work with the dog. On the other hand by crossing Blade in their lines I think they are doing a great job. Now don't get me wrong I'm not saying that Neerlands stam dogs are wrong not at all I've seen some very beautifull dogs from them and as you mentioned Quirinus was of big importance to the breed but that was some time ago.
