| | Big Dog | help!? Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone could help me. I am new to this forum but have been absolutely in love with the doberman breed for quite some time now and am anxious to own one. I have been doing research for about 4 months and have been unsure in some of the breeders I come across. If anybody could help me it would be much appreciated, as this is a crucial step in finding the right Doberman. Thanks for your time guys!

| Try the DT search function and type in some breeder's names to see if they've been discussed on here, get on the UDC or DPCA websites and they have a list of breeders you can try to find out more about.
You can look up dog shows that may be in your area (look on infodog for show dates)and you can see types of Dobermans, what body types you like, etc. Then you can decide if you want heavy working lines, conformation lines, etc. Read the breeders info on the DPCA website about how to find a good breeder. There is a lot you can do before picking up the phone and calling a breeder. |

| I think you'll need to disclose more info about what you're looking for in a Dobe (companion, show prospect, working prospect etc) and where you are located.

| | Big Dog | I'm sorry, like I said I'm new to this forum stuff. I just wanted a companion Doberman. Not those super duper size Dobes..as I hear they have problems. I am located in Northern Delaware. I have looked on the DPCA website but have not found anything in my state. Just wanted a little guidance. I know there are exprienced owners so, I was hoping for their insight. Thanks so much again. |

However, there are plenty of good breeders in NJ and SE PA - so that is where you might want to focus your search.

| You state you don't want those "super size" dogs - well, every single one of those dogs on that website is oversized save for one - many of them multiple inches over standard. Aside from that, no, I would not recommend them as a reputable breeder at all. There are many breeders I would go to locally before I looked at that breeder all the way out in CA.

| If you're only looking for a companion, please consider a rescue. There's still a ton of things you can do with them and there are so many in need of a loving forever home. |

| I've been to Royale Dobes. Some of their dogs are nice, they had one female you couldn't go near and she had pups. I know that one of the breeding females are from Kimbertal (she was nice). At the time we were there they had 3 litters. I am not an expert by any means but we were not impressed. We left without a puppy. I would consider them a BYB. I am not even sure they test or train their dogs. Not to say these pups wouldn't make a good pet, just giving my observation.
