Coefficient of inbreeding

Can someone have a look at these two sites and tell me what this is and does anyone use these tools? Are there others like this available?

where they describe this coefficient of inbreeding.

Then they refer you to this site, where you can enter in a dog and it calculates the amount of inbreeding based in the information in the database and the algorithms developed by this guy Jacques Le Renard; I'm guessing maybe a genetics specialist.

Just curious if there are other sites like this with better data bases? Anyone know? Thanks!

There is a breeders program that does this amongst other things Pedigree Software - Breeders Assistant. The benifit of any database is the number of entries already in it.

k9ped.com pedigree program home page is another one. This one has a doberman database K9-Ped sample databases Doberman Pinscher 18,900

There are other programs I am sure but unless you want to hand enter all the info for several generations how good they are will depend on the database.

There used to be a British woman online who was "into" doberman pedigrees in a big way. She'd developed a HUGE online dobe database. She'd calculate the COI for you on your dog on request. She did Razzle's to 10 generations for me.

Unfortunately she disappeared a couple of years ago, and even her website with the pedigree database is no longer operational. She was a nice person, I hope she's ok.

The dutch site is the only place online that I know of. It actually has a HUGE database for Dobermans- just not too many people in the US know about it, so there aren't many US dobermans listed in the database. I've actually gone to the trouble of adding my dogs to their database- it's been very helpful.

I have a database of about 45,000 and my program calculates coi. I can help if somebody needs it.

Be careful with the one from K9ped. It's a nice program - it's what I started with, but by the time I cleaned up the misspellings and doubles in the database, it was about 9,000 rather than 18,000

I wonder if what you have could be valuable to you and others? Maybe a fee based site? Or web based access with a screen to add detail, etc. It would be great to develop something that can be built upon. I wish I had time to assist... Just the sort of thing that I enjoy working. If you'll assist others that's really cool!

The Arabian Horse Association has a fee based website that has all registered Arabians and Half-Arabians, their registered progeny, markings, and their accomplishments. You can make a fantasy pedigree as well, although I'm unsure if it can figure COI? It is all entered by the AHA, so it is very accurate.

It's a shame the AKC does not offer something along these lines, I'm sure it would be profittable.
