Looking for in MI?

I am having a hard time getting a hold of any good breeders in Michigan. I am not looking for a puppy, but something between 1 and 4 years of age. I know the good breeders do sometimes have dogs they kept for show or breeding and have decided to not use and are looking for a forever home. But why can't I get a hold of anyone? Anyone know where to start looking? I thought about a rescue- but the only rescue I know if is NOT adoption friendly, I have tried in the past to work with them and she always had an excuse to not adopt our her dogs (she has an emotional attachment to them, her words, not mine). My DH was born and raised with Dobes, we have owned 6 Dobes over the years we have been married, 3 of which were all rescues. Any advice?

I also wanted to share this- Lornich Kennels was raided and all the animals were removed. We rescued a Dobe from them a few years back, she was of very unsound temperament and I am very thankful these people are done!

Ocasionally a breeder will have a show ring washout or a retired brood bitch. But you never know when or where one is going to pop up. It really is a case of being in the right place at the right time in a lot of situations.

I'd probably use the DPCA breeder referral list for MI, contact breeders you find there and let them know that's what you're looking for..ask them to keep you in mind if/when they have a dog that would fall into that category.

ADobeOwner, check out the rescue thread, there is a male in MI listed as well as a rescue in that area. Don't know if it is the same rescue you have already contacted.
