Im located in new york and im looking for reputable breeders. Looking in this forum all i've seen is negative comments about breeders being posted. However, you all have stunning dogs. Where should i look?
some questions on the side.
Do you guys believe in neutering or spaying?
What food do you use? i heard all natural is best

| Hi Kevint, and welcome to the forum
I'm glad you are interested in finding a reputable breeder before buying a puppy, and that you're doing your research before-hand.
Rauschund Dobermans is in the New York area I believe. They have a lovely litter right now too, but I'm not sure if they will have puppies available. The website says there are 4 black/rust males though. Here's the link: Rauschund Dobermans
As for your other questions: Quote: |
Originally Posted by kevint Do you guys believe in neutering or spaying? | Yes, I most certainly do, for dogs that are family pets and are not to be used for breeding. Unless you are planning to show your dog or compete in some type of dogsport and put titles on him or her, and plan on using him or her in a quality breeding program, then I'm all for spaying and neutering. It's the responsible thing to do.
It is unlikely that a reputable breeder will sell a puppy to you without a non-breeding agreement, unless there are plans to title (and health test) the puppy and possibly breed him/her at an appropriate age. Good breeders want to know exactly what becomes of their puppies and this includes any puppies that may be produced by their puppies. Quote: |

| I'm planning on feeding Orijen when I get my puppy in a few weeks. It's a no-grain kibble. But there are many good quality foods out there. I have considered all raw (BARF diet), but it's a bit of a committment, and I'm worried I might get overwhelmed. The quality kibble is a better route for me at the moment. Quote: |

| Sorry, I can't help you with this one, as I'm on the other side of the continent
Best of luck to you though, in finding a good vet and a great puppy!

| I agree. Rauschund Dobermans would be my first recommendation if you're strictly looking in New York.
Yes, neutering or spaying is utterly important unless you're going to show or breed. It definitely has positive effects on a dogs personality and if you're planning on a male, it usually changes some negative problems with intact males like humping or marking. After reading everything I've seen about commercial dog food, I don't like it. Some companies actually recycle dogs/cats that were euthanized. They also use meat or other products that weren't intended for human consumption so instead use it for dog food. If you wouldn't eat it, why should your dog? Ya know?
Anywho, good luck in your search

| | Lil Pup | Whoops almost forgot to add, i have heard of Rauschund Dobermans. We exchanged two emails but they wont have availability untill july. I was hoping to get my pup earlier than that since i have been looking for two months now. Just trying to take things slow and get everything sorted out.
As far as food, toys etc, what do you guys spend monthly on your dogs?
I wanted to get in touch with a vet so i can get an idea of how much vaccinations would cost me as well. Maybe I can get some help here? |

I wanted to get in touch with a vet so i can get an idea of how much vaccinations would cost me as well. Maybe I can get some help here? | I spend a small fortune every month on toys, collars, coats, vacations where he can come, beds, Raw diet, treats, the list is endless...but Petey is very spoiled! and I'm down to just him and a turtle...so our pet expenses are low for the first time ever, and hubby said I can go to town! You can spend a ton of money or work up a budget. It is a good idea to be prepared for a potential medical emergency, either have cash put aside or be sure to have a credit card.
You should ask local people you know what vets they use and like. I'm over in Warwick, NY and I have tried every vet in my town at one time or another, and now have finally found one that I love and he is literally a two minute drive from my house, he isn't cheap, but he is really well recommended and Petey loves him.
On the neutering issue....Personally I don't believe in early neutering. I've been told by three vets and a few other people that I respect, that it is best to wait until the dog is over a year old. But you should do what is best for you and YOUR dog.
And waiting until July for a well bred dog will be well worth the time!
Carol & Petey!

Thanks! | You could spend the waiting time getting ready for your puppy, checking out training classes, buying all the things you will need, finding a vet, puppy proofing your home, reading all we have to offer here at DT. You will be really prepared when he comes home, and it will be a much easier puppy hood for you and him!

Secondly, whether you decide on a pup from us or not, I have some friends that got a pup from me 2 years ago that live in the Westchester area, I will email them and ask about a good vet for you if you would like.
As far as food goes I always recommend Canidae, have had great results with it |

| waiting 2 months is nothing! I know someone who waited 4 years to get what she wanted, and then waited a year to get a pup from my girl. Most good breeders (and bad breeders too it seems) have waiting lists.
