| Lil Pup ![]() | familydobes.com I know their price tag is $2.5k but overall it has been the most informative breeder site I have found. I don't really know what to look for when reading pedigrees or how the champion bloodlines awards work, so I might as well be reading spanish when that all comes up. All else looks awesome though, Steve promptly emailed me back when I sent him my email/puppy application and has been helpful with questions. So mainly I am asking what other experiences have been with them, or if there are ways that somebody could poke holes in their ads on the site. Thanks for the help with this. |

I saw a lot of international championships and im not familiar with their requirements... its a bit diff than what American Championships are based on. I will defer to others that might know more- but you can get a GREAT dog for 1.5k... you looking for a show dog? SH? I hope that price tag isnt for a pet quality dog... Since the breeder is communicating with you, here are some helpful questions to ask... I'm sure others can add more for you. Health Testing: VW Heart Thyroid Hips and Elbows Eyes Socialization: Where are the litters whelped? Are they housed in a home or out in some kennel? (kennels are a big red flag to me- my dobe is not shy around dishwashers, vacuums any of that because he was raised inside a house) Last edited by clipclop; 05-13-2008 at 10:06 AM. He talks a good talk, the web pages went on and on. I would definitely do a visit before committing to anything, the price is overly inflated, he tries to justify it, but really, sounds like the so called "professional" breeder, paying the mortgage with puppy money, and Scottsdale isn't a cheap area to live in!

A good pet quality dobe from a VERY reputable breeder should run no more than $1500-$1700. This is someone that isnt churning out so many litters, they can take all of your calls even AFTER they have cashed your check. I talk with my breeder practically every day and she never has to ask which dog it is that I bought from her. As a first time Dobe owner I need that connection. The people here can steer you in the RIGHT direction. Price tag doesnt automatically mean the best dog. Also, how can they guarantee a dog to not have Wobblers? Ive never heard of a guarantee against that. Heart is the number one killer of dobes (DCM) if you dont know much about it its def. something to research and something that no one can guarantee against. The best you can hope is that dogs are given Holters and at that TIME they arent showing signs of DCM. What age are the parents? |
