Just to clarify Mariahs not a total newby she was into GSP for quite a few years before she decided to "upgrade" (Haha) to Dobermans so she had a good grasp even without the mentor (not that that doesn't help...alot )

I know this, and was only being specific to her involvement with Dobies, but probably should have mentioned that she's been involved with purebred dogs for about 10 years now, first the GSP's (she bred one litter) and now the Dobes. I'm thrilled too, to have a puppy from her first Doberman litter

It provides nothing but a trash diet for them if you ask me. | Royal Canin has more than one formula, some better and some not so good. There are other formulas of RC that are not available to the public and are not sold at Petsmart or other pet stores, and are available only to breeders.
I do however think it's ridiculous to say you must keep your dog on one brand of dog food only or your health "guarantee" is void. And really, a whole 2 year guarantee? Wow, how generous :-)

| I may get some flak for this, but there was a thread on family dobes on cyberdobes and some very experienced dobe people called them a puppy mill. I'm inclined to agree.

Not only have I learned SO much from DT and the breeder I've chosen, they've invited me to come with them to shows and I've made a new group of friends! Not only have I learned about the breed but I'm getting to see the "world of dobermans" first hand. To top it all off, they are crazy dog people too so its a LOT of fun! |

| | Big Pup | And at that $2500 price thats with floppy ears!, so add another $300+ if you want the ears done. I would stay away from him I e-mailed him about getting one of his dogs and the first e-mail I get back from him is him wanting to sell the dog to me, no question and nothing to fill out. I never got back to him after seeing how fast he was to just sell his pups, doesn't sound like a good breeder. So at $2500 for the pup + ears + shipping thats over $3000 for a pet dog!, kinda crazy if you ask me. |

| It doesn't take much research to figure out what this guy is all about. He's about Quantity instead of Quality. Anyone with that many litters at once is a Puppy Mill. Don't be foolish. You can do a lot better cheaper.
Go to Breeder Referral - Official DPCA Breeder Referral Directory or UDC Breeders Directory
or United Doberman Club
These breeders may not be perfect either, but they are better than where you are currently looking. Good Luck!

| sarevok, have you considered giving a rescue Dobe a home instead of buying a puppy? |

All else looks awesome though, Steve promptly emailed me back when I sent him my email/puppy application and has been helpful with questions. So mainly I am asking what other experiences have been with them, or if there are ways that somebody could poke holes in their ads on the site. Thanks for the help with this. | I have met Steve and been to his place.
This is NOT a puppy mill.
He has a science degree in genetics and nutrition.
He is dedicated to Doberman's, with health and temperament.
His Doberman's, adult and puppies live with and around his family, children, and they are very well socialized.
I went with my Wife and Daughter, drove almost 600 miles one way, and we were so impress with Steve, his dedication, and the quality of his Doberman's that my daughter bought one of the last females.
We are extremely pleased.
If anyone has any questions they can email me and I can then have my daughter contact you. |

I love when people say "breeder A" keeps his/her puppies with the family and around children, as if that is some kind of incredible accomplishment on the part of the breeder. A better accomplishment would to state the longevity, health testing and titles won by ones dogs. Also, who the hell cares if he has a science degree? What does that have to do with the dogs he produces?
As far as the breeder is concerned. My main concern is the amount of litters they are having. As other people have said, having five litters on the ground puts them in puppy mill territory. Also, I would hope they do the necessary health testing, I really don't feel like going through their whole site. The excessive about how great and awesome their dogs are, make me want to throw up.
I will give them credit for at least working some of their dogs and trying to put titles on their dogs as well, so in that aspect they aren't completely full of it.
