| 1) Back to back breeding of their bitch "Abbey".
2) "Sasha is our top producing female."
3) Distant claims to fame (nothing they have really achieved with their own dogs).
Yuck.

| wasn't impressed, focus on working dogs, and I agree conformation isn't everything but a dobe with good structure is better prepared for performance sports. contract had some unusual parts- like the requirement of vit C, I do that but have never seen it in a contract. I would keep looking.

| Shame you nixed them...
Perhaps they are not producing what you are looking for but these folks actually produce some excellent working dogs and have a great reputation in the working community.
Further I disagree today's conformation requirements have anything to do with improved performance for working sports but thats just MHO.....
Good luck in your search...

| I don't see any real distant claims to fame - they've achieved actual schutzhund titles on their own dogs, and I think THAT'S pretty brag-able (If mine had it, I'd probably be shouting from rooftops, ya know). I don't know the health testing on their dogs (and that's a sticker for me), but I do like Cajun (their foundation bitch, who I assume is littermate to Cody, another C-litter Lowenhaus dog) and the lines .
I'm not sure a summer 2007 and a spring 2008 litter is a back to back breeding for Abbey - she may have had a heat cycle in between there.
They don't seem to mention vWD, thyroid, cardiac testing, etc on their website, which I think is sad in this day and age. As we all know, that is something that I will use as a make or break for a breeder.
I don't think their dogs are that bad looking, and personally for ME, these aren't dogs I would overlook if I was looking for a dog. But clearly, I am looking for a different type of dog than many other people. But I just have to comment that these dogs actually HAVE achieved some things (though the ones being bred do not appear to have some titles, one of their males is a working narcotics dog, so I do not think he WOULD have titles), their females have Sch I's and II's.
I want to elaborate on what Vadim said - while I *do* think structure is important and I do think that we need to strive to maintain that, I don't think that you need to be an AKC CH to be a good working dog and furthermore, I am not quite convinced right now that the trend people are breeding for in the AKC ring is the one that should be followed, is one that actually produces a functional working dog, or is one that was meant when Herr Dobermann conceptualized the doberman, but that is a different thread...

| I have to agree that I think we ought to have a temperment test, like a WAE, before dogs can receive their CH. There are alot of nice dogs out there that receive their CH, but are spooks. |

| I don't think they look bad. They are not the "extreme" European show type, they are more moderate dogs. In fact I REALLY like Baron Riddick. He has a very nice front, a long, dry arched neck, deep chest and seemingly good rear (although it is over stretched in that picture) His head is pleasing too.
They have a couple of nice bitches on their site as well. I don't think I would overlook them.
I can only speculate what herr dobermann's vision was. However, I don't think it would be either *extreme* from either continent. In fact judging from the pictures and descriptions of early dobes it may not have been what any of us (generic) have in our homes today.
On another note, there are many breeds of different shapes and sizes that can do protection/agility/obedience etc. Everything from boarder collies, boxers, labs, and mutts have excelled in different sports without breaking down. However, structure and type are what make a doberman look like a doberman and not some other breed. There are also structural faults that will make a dog break down before it's time such as weak pasterns, extreme upright shoulders, cow hocks, spayed feet etc. These things should not be overlooked just because a dog can work. Conversely, a dog with poor temperament and good structure doesn't cut it for me either. I think middle ground and moderation are the key.
