swift run dobes and drives?

good morning all,

So my title is a double entendre.

I would like some opinions on the drives in swiftrun dobes. I know each dog is an individual but would those of you familiar with tammy's lines elaborate a bit on their working drives. I would really like a dog with some drive to help in training and of course "killing" tennis balls and frisbees. I'm very attracted to her lines because from what I've read and seen her dog are the total package. Brains, conformation and working aptitude.

However I don't want a "go, go go work work work" driven dog. this weekend I meet three belgian malinois...one of which was bred from belgian working lines and was titled sch II dog. While he was fun I don't think I would want to live with a dog like that...man he was off the wall. constantly doing something big. gnawing his lead, scaling the 8' wall, running the jumps on his own, etc.

His owner had him super well trained and handled him great, but he was, for lack of better words, a bit too intense for me.

if i contact Tammy and tell her that I don't want a "must work all the time" dobe do ya'll think her lines would be appropriate? Basically I'm going for driven companion dog...enough drive to assist me in training and motivate her work with me, but not so much that I have to start driving to the VA beach sch. club every weekend.

secondly, I live about ten hours away from bowling green, KY. I am not at all opposed to driving any distance or even flying to pick up a pup in the future, but I was wondering if anyone on here has been to Swiftrun?

I done a lot of research on Tammy and Swiftrun and her dogs and reputation speak for themselves, but I'd really like to know a bit more about her facilities and how the dogs live and whatnot. her reputation is impeccable, but i just wanna be really sure she's serious before I bother he with my notebook full of questions and whatnot.

thanks, darkstar

I have been there. Went there in 1999, and recently 2007. Her dogs are livable, they might have more energy to burn than some dobes, but they do have an "off" switch and are capable of being house dogs. They do excel at working, but it doesn't have to be Schutzhund. I know a lot of her dogs do agility and obedience work too.
You can get a nice balanced dog from her. She probably would sell you a middle of the road puppy (drives) as opposed to the most intense one in the bunch. I can honestly say that I prefer dogs that are at a happy medium. Give her a call, she is nice to talk to.

If you find a Dobe like that Mal let me know, I want him. That is if he can also bite.
