Waiting Longer

Yes, that is what we ended up doing, our last litter was awesome, (my opinion LOL) ... born in March '07 and we're still debating this heat or next heat to repeat the breeding. My reason for waiting a little longer was I also want to make sure that this time I get a full puppy year in. :-)

back to back

We have this twice, in our life as breeders, on 2 different bitches that had some problems on first litter and this was based on age of the bitches to. Must say the 2nd litter was wonderful no problem and the bitches recoved faster than from the first litter.
We are always in close touch with 2 reproductive specialists which are Dr Stock in Qc Canada and Dr Hutchinson...They both seem to think its better to breed bitches back to back in any case since the uterus keeps the elasticity and it demands less investments (hormone wise) from the bitch. This is debated every time we go in reproduction seminar ...so we have to be careful when passing judgement on breeders who are doing this. Its not worst than all those people who breed their poor bitches 5 times a year apart...this blows me away, some well known breeders even bred their bitch till they are 7 or 8...this in my book is much more to be watch carefully. The older the bitch the harder it is..another point said by the reproduction specialist who preach to breed earlier than later in the life of the animal...food for thought no?

I don't breed, so I did not want to say anything, but I thought that is what Dr. Hutchison said. I have friends that use him for repro.
