Unfortunately this is very common. A lot of people regard buying a dog in the same way as buying a bit of gym equipment or something, and if they decide it's not right for them they immediately think about recouping some of their financial loss by selling it on.
It's very annoying but there's not much that can be done about it. It's just how such people are.
I think it's likely that they will want to get back the $500 they paid for her, but it's anyone's guess really - you'll have to make them an offer and play it by ear. Sometimes these types tot up the purchase price, any vet bills, food bills, accessories bills, and think they should get the lot back. Othertimes they are a bit more reasonable and just want to recoup some of what they've spent.
