I have used a double collar set-up when weaning a dog off the prong collar. Usually at that point I attach a tab to the prong collar.

A word of caution, NEVER leave any training collar on a dog who is unattended. Many dogs have died by getting a chocker collar caught on something in the crate, house or fence.
