I've never heard the theory that ice will give dogs diarrhea. Someone should tell my dogs that since they will all eat ice if it's offered.

But there are definitely other things that will give dogs diarrhea. Dietary indescretion: too much food, eating things that really aren't edible--leaves, sticks, grass, dead and partially rotting vegitation, parasites--worms, giardia etc, bacterial infections of several varieties, colitis, irritable bowel syndrome, stress.

If your vet isn't open until Monday and you aren't going to take the dog into an emergency clinic try boiling white rice and mixing it 4 parts rice to 1 part non fat cottage cheese or ground chicken. You can use ground beef but boil that and skim the fat. A tablespoon of pumpkin with each meal will sometimes help.

If the diarrhea, which sounds severe, continues you should think about getting the dog into an emergency clinic though--things get worse fast with intractable diarrhea when the dog also starts to dehydrate.

Good luck.
