Personally, it drives me crazy when people are so quick to post that every dog posted here is "beautiful", "stunning", "handsome", etc. On the one hand, it's nice to be complimentary about people's pets but OTOH, it is one of the things that leads to irresponsible breeding. How many times have we heard of a byb saying "well, my vet said she is beautiful", or my neighbour said "she's the most beautiful Doberman they ever saw" or my cousin/barber/brother-in-law/dentist, etc said something similar? Too, too many times. Unfortunately, it does make me extremely hesitant to compliment anyone's pet lest they take it the wrong way and decide that a nice, shiny coat (or any other singular good point) is a reason to breed ...
Sorry that it drives you crazy when people compliment dogs on the forum that are not "show quality". However, it seems to me that this forum is not a "show forum". If it were and people were complimenting dogs with less than stellar conformation I could understand your concern.

The truth is that Dobermans are just plain beautiful, noble, handsome, etc., in all their permutations. Thank goodness someone does love each of the "non-perfect" Dobermans. Nobody means that the dog should go into the show ring or be bred when they give a compliment here. I don't think the people asking are, in any way, taking compliments given here as a go-ahead to breed. If someone is going to be a BYB, no amount of compliments or criticisms on DT will be changing that.

I think that all the threads that educate DT members on backyard breeding are a great balance for the way that I compliment dogs that are not breeding quality. The truth is that I do really think they are pretty or handsome or whatever and I want to say it.
